Xiaomi Redmi 5A 16 GB Specifications
Introduction and Performance
Xiaomi,
the leader of budget smartphones unveiled its a new smartphone in December
2017, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. This phone is a successor of the Redmi 4A, which was
a big hit in the market. Xiaomi smartphones are built to match consumer
expectations in every manner, price and performance being the significant
areas.
The
design of the phone is similar to that of other Redmi phones. The phone is
built of great quality plastic with a metallic finish on the edges. The phone
is slightly smaller than its predecessor, which allows for comfortable
single-handed use. The colours available are Gold, Rose Gold, and Grey.
Talking
about the performance, the phone runs on 1.4GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon
425 processor and GPU Adreno 308. The phone has been launched with 2GB and 3GB
RAM variants. For this budget, the phone runs pretty smoothly and loads the
apps surprisingly faster.
Camera and Storage
Moving
on to the camera next, the phone comes with a 13MP rear camera with LED flash
on the side and 5 MP front camera with f/2.0 wide aperture. The camera app is
very basic and comes with a PDAF upgrade. The phone can shoot full-HD videos at
30fps. On a budget phone like this, the camera performance is good enough for
brightly lit areas, although it struggles a little in dim light.
Talking
about the storage, the company launched two variants- 16 GB storage with 2 GB
RAM and 32 GB storage with 3 GB RAM. The storage is expandable up to 128 GB
using a dedicated microSD card.
Battery and Display
Redmi
5A, for a price like this, comes with a 3,000mAh battery, which will last you a
whole day on moderate use.
The
phone sports a 5-inch HD IPS LCD screen with 720*1280 pixel resolution. The
pixel density is 296 PPI, so you will not be able to spot any pixelation. The
display, although not outstanding, does a decent job for the price of the
phone. The colours are bright and rich and offer good visibility under direct
sunlight as well.
Connectivity and Platform
The
phone comes with Dual SIM slots with 4G Volte capabilities. Apart from that,
WiFi, Radio, GPRS, NFC, USB, and Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP are the connectivity
options available in the phone.
On
the software front, the phone runs on the Android 7.1 Nougat with MIUI 9 UI.
The new UI layer comes with exciting features like Indian festivals and
holidays card in the calendar, IRCTC cards in Messaging App, Easy Ola cab,
Paytm integration in App Vault, etc.
The
Redmi 5A has everything that anyone would require from a smartphone, and for a
price like this, this phone is a great steal.
