Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro Specifications
While the high-end Note and Galaxy handsets from Samsung usually get most of the coverage, it is actually the budget phones that the South Korean manufacturer offers that make it the most popular brand in India. The J series is quickly replacing the S Duos and Ace to be the new top handsets under Rs. 10,000-Rs.15,000. Apart from decent features and reliability of Samsung, the company is also focusing on launching innovative features with each of its latest releases.
While Galaxy J2 has a smart glow at the back, Galaxy J3 has S Bike mode. In July 2016, the company released an upgraded version of J2, the J2 Pro, with some changes. The changes are nothing major on paper but do a great job of improving the overall functionality and usability of the device. Major highlights include more RAM, better internal storage, dual-SIM slot, and improved battery.
Solid Build and Design
• Display
The phone has a 5-inches HD AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and pixel density of ~294 PPI. The AMOLED display is much kinder on the battery and produces bright and accurate colours. However, the phone lacks ambient light sensor, and you’ll have to adjust the brightness manually. Samsung has tried to make up for the sensor with an Outdoor mode which brightens the display all the way for up to 15 minutes.
• Build
While the build of J2 Pro is almost similar to its predecessor, there are some nifty changes. For instance, the rear panel has a lined pattern at the back with the brand logo on it. The pattern improves the grip on the device. Moreover, there is also the smart glow ring at the back which replaces the notification LED. Apart from this, be it the micro-USB port, 3.5mm jack or the removable back panel, everything is almost similar.
• Optics
For imaging, J2 Pro has a 5MP front camera and an 8MP shooter at the back. The primary camera also has LED flash for shooting in low-lighting conditions. The camera app is also equipped with a host of features and modes like autofocus, touch focus, geo-tagging, face detection, panorama, and HDR. The cameras are decent given the price of the device and are good for someone who loves sharing pictures on social networking websites.
Inside the Galaxy J2 Pro
• Processor
J2 Pro has the Spreadtrum SC8830 quad-core processor tuned at 1.5GHz. While the processor is similar to J2, the RAM has been increased to 2GB for better performance. Moreover, the phone also uses Samsung’s Turbo Speed Technology which is said to improve the overall performance of the phone with smart RAM and apps management. It has an internal storage of 16GB which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.
• Operating System
The phone runs on Android Marshmallow with a layer of Samsung’s TouchWiz UI on top. The UI is user-friendly and offers a host of customisation options. Over the years, the company has toned down its UI and has made it one of the best interfaces offered by phone manufacturers. If you are already a Samsung user, the UI will ensure that you feel at home. It comes with a number of preloaded apps like My Galaxy, S Planner, Galaxy App Store, Skype and Microsoft Office.
• Battery and Other Specs
The phone is powered by a 2,600mAh Li-Ion battery which is removable. The battery offers audio playback of up to 54 hours and talk time of up to 14 hours on a 3G network. There is no support for fast or quick charging. There are also several connectivity options like Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, FM radio, micro USB 2.0 and OTG. Proximity and accelerometer are the two sensors integrated into the device.
Pros and Cons

• Compact build- Galaxy J2 Pro has a compact design which feels very comfortable in the hands. As compared to J2, the design of the successor has been slightly upgraded for better usability.
• Smart Glow- The Smart Glow ring at the back is an excellent addition to the device. The ring lights up for the notifications, and users get to customise the ring colours.
• Great battery life- The 2,600mAh battery should last for at least a day for most users.
• Innovative features- The phone comes with a host of innovative features like S Bike mode, Ultra Data Saving mode and much more.
• Supports VoLTE and 4G- J2 Pro supports VoLTE as well as 4G which means that you can use it on any network in India.
Cons: What Could have been Better?
• No ambient light sensor- There is no ambient light sensor in J2 Pro which is something that can be easily found in most budget phones.
• Cannot record full HD videos-The rear camera on the phone can only record videos in up to 720p resolution.
• Gaming performance is not very impressive- The phone has a Mali 400MP2 GPU for graphics. It is not adequate for high-end games.
