Oppo A37 Specifications
In India, the Chinese handset maker Oppo is gaming on the widespread obsession with taking pictures through smartphones. Previous camera-focused launches from the brand like Oppo F1 and Oppo F1 Plus abundantly relied on this trend which is very popular among youngsters in the country. In 2016, the company launched Oppo A37, a phone with a decent set of features, to the game on the increasing popularity of budget smartphones under Rs.15,000.
The phone has a 5-inches IPS display with a Snapdragon processor and 16GB inbuilt memory. Overall, A37 is an impressive smartphone which effectively justifies its price tag and is a perfect pick for someone looking for a budget-friendly device.
Appearance and Design
• Body
As mentioned above, A37 is built to justify its price tag and while the company has tried to deliver as much as possible, one cannot expect premium features in it. The mobile is draped in refined plastic and the rear panel has a metallic finish to it. The chassis of the phone is made from magnesium-aluminum alloy which has gone through several polishing procedures and looks premium and elegant.
• Build
The phone feels just right in the hands and can be easily used with a single hand. You can find the SIM slot and power button on the right side of the device and volume rocker on the left. There are three trays in the SIM slot where you can insert two SIMs and a memory card. The earphone jack is at the top of the device and the speaker grilles and charging port are at the bottom.
• Display and Camera
Oppo A37 measures 143.1 x 71 x 7.7mm and weighs 136 grams which given its 5-inches display, makes it a lightweight device. The IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with a pixel density of ~294 PPI. The phone features a 8MP camera at the back with LED flash and autofocus. It has a 1/3.2” sensor and features like geo-tagging, face detection, touch focus, geo-tagging, and panorama.
The front 5MP shooter has a ¼” sensor and is great for taking selfies. The cameras allow you to take pictures through palm gestures, voice, and touch. There is also a self-timer mode and many different types of frames that you can select for your pictures. As with most recent phones from Oppo, the cameras are one of the highlights of A37.
Processor and Performance

Oppo A37 is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset and a Cortex-A-53 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. It runs on Android Lollipop with a layer of ColorOS 3.0.
• Storage and RAM
The phone comes inbuilt with a storage of 16GB and is expandable up to 128GB with a microSD card. A37 has a 2GB RAM which is surely a notable feature of a device at this price point. Along with the four cores of the device, the RAM ensures a lag-free multitasking experience.
• Battery and Connectivity
The phone has a non-removable 2,630mAh Li-Ion battery which can easily last a day for most users. Connectivity options offered by the phone include 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, FM Radio and micro USB 2.0. It also features proximity, accelerometer, and compass.
Pros and Cons
Pros
• Good display- The 5-inches IPS LCD of the phone is bright and vivid. The colours look very impressive, and the text is sharp and clear.
• Corning Gorilla Glass for protection- The display of the device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
• Improved ColorOS- The ColorOS 3.0 which is inspired by Android Marshmallow is a major upgrade from its previous version. For instance, this upgraded OS is 25% faster than its predecessor, and the data processing speed too has increased significantly.
• Light-weight premium built- The phone only weighs 136 grams and only has a thickness of 7mm. Is design too is very aesthetic, and the phone feels solid in hand with excellent grip and usability.
• Dedicated slot for the memory card- While many of the more expensive devices too, have a hybrid SIM slot, Oppo A37 has a dedicated slot for memory card.
Cons
• No fingerprint scanner- The fingerprint sensor has now become a standard feature in the mid-range smartphones offered by Chinese handset makers. However, A37 doesn’t feature a fingerprint scanner.
• No fast or quick charging- There is no support for quick or fast charging which again is a feature found in other phones in the same price range.
• Non-removable battery- The battery in Oppo A37 is non-removable.
• Android Lollipop- While many of the phones in this range now have Android Nougat, Oppo A37 still runs on Android Lollipop.
• No NFC- There is no NFC feature on the phone, a wireless technology with the help of which you can interact with other devices.
