Motorola Moto E4 Plus Specifications
If you’re looking for a budget Smartphone that has impressive specifications, a reliable chipset, bloat-free android, large screen, and a massive battery – all at a reasonable price, then the Moto E4 Plus is the way to go.
Ever since Lenovo took over Motorola, the brand has launched an impressive line-up of entry-level to mid-range and even a few flagship devices, that all perform exceptionally well. Launched in July 2017, the E4 Plus is a utilitarian workhorse that just keeps on going.
Let’s take a closer look at the features, technical specifications and pros, and cons of the Moto E4 Plus.
Design and Build Quality
The E4 Plus comes with a removable back cover, but the battery is non-removable. The centre panel of the back cover is made of high-quality metal, and you can find the sim and MicroSD slots on the back, above the battery.
The rear camera doesn’t protrude from the chassis, and there are no annoying humps. The phone feels a bit heavy due to the massive 5000 mAh battery, but nothing that hinders your user experience.
• Physical Dimensions: 155 X 77.5 X 9.55 mm
• Weight: 181g
Coming to the front of the device, the fingerprint sensor is on the lower chin, just below the display and you get wide bezels on the top and bottom. The speaker grille and micro USB ports are on the bottom, and the 3.5mm headphone jack is on the top of the device.
Display
The E4 Plus comes with a big 5.5” IPS LCD with a resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. The display offers several screen modes to choose from depending on your surrounding light. Additionally, the adaptive brightness alters the screen automatically based on the available light. The screen turns bright when using it outdoors and dims when reading late at night, so as not to strain your eyes.
The E4 Plus comes with the Moto Display, which activates the screen as soon as you pick it up or when you receive an incoming notification. You can also schedule the time for night mode to enable it during a particular period of the day automatically.
Battery Life
One of the biggest draws of the E4 Plus is its massive battery. The E4 Plus easily lasts for nearly 36 hours on a single charge. You can further extend the battery life to 3-4 days by reducing the screen brightness. The excellent battery life makes the Moto E4 Plus an ideal travel phone, as you can continue using it for extended periods of time without plugging into a wall socket.
The E4 Plus comes with a 10W rapid charger. However, it takes around 3-4 hours to charge the massive 5000 mAh battery entirely, but that isn’t a flaw as the battery easily lasts for 2-3 days on a single charge.
Call Connectivity, Speakers and Audio Quality
The E4 Plus has excellent call connectivity options and manages to maintain the network signal even in areas with a spotty connection. The device comes with a single front-facing speaker that provides decent call clarity. The voice doesn’t get distorted even at high volumes. Though the maximum speaker output isn’t that loud enough, it handles regular tasks with no issues.
Camera
The E4 Plus offers a competent imaging experience for a budget phone. The E4 captures vibrant images in good-lighting, thanks to the inbuilt HDR processor. The primary camera has a 13MP with an aperture of f/2.0. The camera offers an excellent dynamic range even in high-contrast situations meaning your images capture the details without much of noise.
The selfie camera has a 5MP sensor with an LED flash, which helps you click good selfies even in low-light conditions. The maximum video recording resolution of the E4 Plus is 720p.
Hardware & Software Performance
The Moto E4 Plus runs on a 1.3GHZ Quad-core MediaTek processor. It comes with 3GB RAM along with an internal memory space of 16GB/32GB. Additionally, you can extend the memory up to 128GB. The processor is pretty quick, and there are no lags or delay while handling regular tasks like social media, internet browsing, calls, and texting. However, the device seems to slow a bit when handling data-intensive games.
Android 7.1 Nougat powers the device. One of the highlights of this device is that it gives you a “true” Android experience. Apart from a couple of apps like the Moto Display and Moto Actions, there is no bloatware. This gives you a clean Android UI, and you get all the features of the Nougat OS like split-screen, UI tuner, multi-user support and much more.
The Google Assistant, Google Now Pane, Google Wallpapers and other Google suite of apps are pre-installed on the device. You can activate Google Assistant by just clicking on the concentric home button.
The Good:
• The curved metal back makes the phone fit comfortably in your hand, thereby improving usability.
• The massive 5000 mAh battery that easily lasts for two whole days.
• Minimal bloatware, meaning you get a pure Android experience.
• While the display isn’t the best in class, it performs exceedingly well with accurate colours.
• Affordable price that fits within all budgets.
The Not So Good:
• The fingerprint sensor is a bit smaller when compared to other devices, and requires you to position your thumb in a correct alignment for it to work accurately.
• There is a noticeable delay between pressing the camera button and the image clicked. This leads to blurry photos at times.
• The massive battery takes a long time to charge.
• The Moto E4 Plus still uses the old micro USB and not the latest USB Type-C port.
• There is a significant delay in performance when handling memory-intensive games.
