Gionee A1 Specifications
From Gionee comes a new Smartphone, the A1 aimed at the generation that is obsessed with clicking and sharing selfies on social media. The Chinese Smartphone maker has even launched a whole “Selfiestan” campaign promoting this device. With an affordable price, impressive hardware and the latest Android version you can get, the A1 offers more than selfies.
With a whopping 16 MP front-facing camera with flash, a 5.5” Full-HD display and a massive 4010 mAH battery, the A1 gives other competitors like the Oppo F3 and Vivo V5 a run for their money.
Key Highlights
• Design and Display
The A1 flaunts a metallic uni-body with contoured edges that give it a premium appearance. Thanks to the matte-finish and curved body, the device is lightweight and sleek, making it quite easy to hold and use one-handed.
You can find the power and volume up/down buttons on the right side of the phone. The SIM tray is on the left. The speaker and micro-USB port are at the bottom.
As for the display, it sports a 5.5” Full-HD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It offers a wide variety of viewing angles, and the display performs well even in direct sunlight. You can adjust the screen brightness using the following modes – Adaptive Brightness (Automatic Brightness) and Economic Backlight (reduces brightness for power consumption).
• Performance and Battery Life
An Octa-core MediaTek processor with a speed of 2.0 GHz, powers the A1 and it comes with 4GB RAM. The internal memory capacity is 64GB, which can be extended up to 256GB, via an external microSD card.
The device performs extremely well and doesn’t show any lag, even while running graphics intense games. Also, multitasking is a breeze on the Gionee A1. You can run several apps and the same time and switch from one to another, without experiencing any issues.
Coming to the battery life, the A1 sports a massive 4010 mAh Li-ion battery. You can easily use the device for more than a day with a single charge. Also, charging time is pretty quick, which means you don’t have to leave it plugged for hours together.
• Operating System and Audio Quality
The A1 is the first Smartphone from Gionee to come preloaded with the Android 7.0 Nougat. On top of the Android shell, is the Amigo 4.0 UI from Gionee. The brand has kept the interface clean and simple, with easy navigational features and offers split-screen capabilities.
However, like several other popular models, there is no app drawer, and you can find all the apps right on the home screens.
The mono-stereo speaker is located at the bottom of the device and offers loud media output. Additionally, you can connect a 3.5 mm headphone to listen to media. The call quality is outstanding, and signal reception is reliable. The phone offers VoLTE connectivity and supports dual sim.
Special Features of Amigo 4.0 UI
• The Amigo UI offers some great fun features like 1000+ emojis, mood wallpapers, and GIFs.
• You can use the pre-installed Chameleon app to scan an object and create a theme based on the colour of the scanned object.
• Activate the Guest Mode to keep your call logs, text messages, and photos safe from prying eyes.
• The Child Mode lets you specify the apps that you want your kiddos to access while keeping the rest locked.
• Other features include Super-Screenshot, Extreme Battery mode, Theme park mode and Fake calling.
Camera Performance
The Gionee A1 focuses more on the selfie and flaunts a massive 16MP front-facing, selfie-camera with soft flash. The rear camera flaunts 13MP with dual-LED flash. The beautification feature gives you picture-perfect selfies that are likely to get the “Likes” Rolling.
The numerous shooting modes, multiple-images, GIF creation, easy to use camera interface all make it a delight to click selfies with the A1. The selfie camera has an aperture of f/2.0, making your selfies look bright and well-lit. Additionally, you can use the front flash in low-lighting conditions. The primary camera too does a good job and offers accurate colour reproduction.
What’s Good? The Pros
• Impressive Display – The Gionee A1 has a display that is full of colour and offers crisp images. The screen looks bright even when you use it at 50% power.
• Massive Battery – You can comfortably use the phone for an entire day without having to search for a charger. The 4010 mAh battery is a workhorse and keeps on going all day.
• Spectacular Cameras – The cameras on the device perform well even in low-lighting conditions and do not blow or saturate colours. Colours are pretty much accurate.
• Multitasking – The MediaTek processor does its job well and can handle even heavy tasks with ease.
• Android Nougat – The latest version of Android, the Nougat comes pre-loaded on the device. This offers you great performance and provides access to several new features.
What’s not Good? The Cons
• Heating issues – The all-metal body heats up a bit when running heavy games continuously.
• Bloatware – While the Amigo UI is pretty good, it comes with bloatware that cannot be uninstalled.
• A Bit Heavy – The 4010mAh battery adds to the weight of the device, and it begins to feel heavy after a few hours of usage.
• No USB-C port – The A1 still uses a micro-USB port and hasn’t made the switch to the latest version.
• No NFC – The A1 doesn’t support Near-Field Communications, meaning you won’t be able to use Android Pay when it rolls out.
