Gionee A1 Lite Specifications
True to its mantra of “Selfie and Battery,” the Chinese Smartphone maker Gionee launched the third A-series phone, the Gionee A1 Lite in August 2017. Gionee has created a name for itself among the selfie-obsessed younger generation, with its impressive line-up of phones, which capture the best selfies in the market.
The predecessors of A1 Lite, the A1, and A1 Plus fall under the mid-range and mid-premium range respectively. The A1 Lite is priced modestly when compared to the other devices in the A1 series. It’s perfect for selfie-lovers, who don’t want to spend a fortune. The highlight of this device is its whopping 20MP selfie camera with an equally impressive 4000mAh battery.
Let’s take a closer look at the other features, specifications, overall pros and cons of the A1 Lite.
Design, Display and Build Quality
The A1 Lite looks very similar to its elder brother, the A1, but a bit smaller. It has a full-metal body that offers excellent grip. It weighs 161g and features a 5.3” screen.
You can find the speaker, the 3.5mm headphone jack and the micro-USB slot on the bottom and the fingerprint sensor on the back of the device, right below the camera. The fingerprint sensor is circular and fits perfectly to your thumb. Below the fingerprint sensor, is the round Gionee logo, which matches the sensor aesthetically. The sensor is quite easy to operate and is accurate enough. The volume keys and power button are on the right of the device, while the dual-nano sim tray and microSD slot are to the left.
The A1 exudes quality and scores high on ergonomics. It feels great to hold, and there are no creeks, and the buttons offer excellent tactile feedback. Overall, though the design lacks originality, it scores on build quality and user experience.
Coming to the display, the A1 Lite sports an HD screen (1280 x 720 pixels) with a 2.5D curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. Wide viewing angles, sunlight legibility, vivid colours and sharp images are some of the pros of the display.
Hardware and Performance
A MediaTek Octa-core MT6753 processor powers the Gionee A1 Lite. The processor has a clock speed of 1.3GHz and comes with a Mali-T720MP3 GPU. The RAM capacity is 3GB, and it comes with an internal storage of 32GB. The connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11, micro USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The A1 Lite handles regular tasks with ease, thanks to the 3GB RAM. However, when you run heavy games, it results in lowered frame rates. Also, the A1 Lite handles multi-tasking quite efficiently, but when you use 12+ apps simultaneously, the processor struggles a bit causing delays or lags.
One of the biggest highlights of the device is that it packs in a whopping 4000mAh battery. The battery lasts for a full-day of usage, and you can squeeze out more from it if you’re a regular to moderate user.
Software, UI, and Apps
The A1 Lite runs on Amigo UI 4.0, on top of Android 7.0 Nougat. The Amigo UI is pretty fluid and has several handy features like the full-page screenshot. It’s a single level UI, with no app drawer. Additionally, you can place frequently accessed apps on the fixed shortcut bar at the bottom of the display.
You have to swipe up from the bottom to access the quick toggles. This improves one-handed usage, and you can comfortably use the device while on the move, thanks to the handy 5.3”screen. The A1 Lite comes with some preloaded apps, which you can uninstall if you don’t require them. This helps you get more internal memory.
Overall, the 4th iteration of the Amigo UI is efficient and improves user experience to a great extent, when compared to earlier versions.
Camera Performance
The biggest highlight of the A1 Lite is its stellar 20MP selfie camera with selfie-flash. On the back, you get the 13MP rear-facing camera with LED flash. Limited noise even in low-light, adequate focussing speed, HDR, and “Beauty” mode are some of the special features of the camera.
When you click the “Beauty” mode, your images are corrected to reduce freckles and blemishes. Additionally, you can try other features like whitening, eye-enlarger, slimming and smoother to make your selfies, picture-perfect.
Pros: The Good
• The build quality is reliable and robust and gives the impression of a device that can withstand the wear and tear of regular usage.
• The size of the A1 Lite is slim, compact making it easy to use and hold, even while on the move.
• The selfie camera is stellar and comes loaded with plenty of features to edit your selfies quickly.
• The battery lasts comfortably for a whole work day, with a single charge.
• A pocket-friendly price that suits all budgets.
Cons: The Bad
• The A1 Lite lacks a Full-HD display, which is a bit of downer when compared to its direct competitors.
• The phone tends to heat up a bit when pushing processor boundaries, especially while running heavy games or multitasking.
• There is a noticeable time delay between clicking the shutter button and capturing images, which leads to a few blurry shots.
• The performance takes a hit when running memory intensive games and extreme multitasking.
• The UI asks for plenty of permissions, which become a bit annoying after some time.
