YouTube – Amazing Popularity in Less Than a Decadeby Sushant Bhosale October 1, 2013 0 comments
YouTube is synonymous with the words, “internet”, “online”, “videos” and more and with its popularity graph still on the rise, a brief overview of its story till now does seem quite interesting.
Keeping in mind the powerful impact of audio-video format, YouTube was launched in the early half of 2005 with a single video. Within a span of a year and half, it was acquired by Google and by October 2009, it registered one billion views daily. These figures have been steadily increasing… in fact doubling with each passing year for in the year 2010, 2 billion views were recorded followed by 3 billion in 2011, 4 billion in January 2012.
Post its acquisition by Google, YouTube was launched in 9 countries and by next year i.e. 2008, it began streaming HD Video. Keeping pace with technology updates, Catch up TV was made available in October 2009.
Aspiring to fully capitalize on the potential of YouTube, Google launched Trueview Ads on it which become an instant success. As the number of views kept on increasing, YouTube got its first makeover in December 2011.
Today, YouTube boasts over 800 million monthly unique visitors, 72 hours of video uploaded each minute, and over four billion hours of video watched each month.
If you want to see your favorite music video or maybe an example of a do-it-yourself task you’re working on, where is the very first place online that you would go to? Chances are the answer is YouTube. Even though there are several other video services on the Internet, none come anywhere near the success and prevalence of YouTube. Since its beginning in 2005, YouTube has risen to the top in terms of sites visited (it’s the number 2 search engine behind Google) and has since held its place there comfortably.
