Xiaomi introduced a new Redmi ‘Y’ series. Just don’t ask why. The first smartphone in the series is Redmi Y1. The budget phone comes with a metal-frame. It is made of polycarbonate with a faux metal finish. Specifications-wise, it is exactly like the Redmi Note 5A. The phone features a 5.5-inch HD screen. It is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass. The Redmi Y1 is powered by Snapdragon 435 SoC (System on Chip).
Xiaomi offers this phone in two variants. The 3 GB RAM version comes with 32 GB internal storage. The other one with 4 GB RAM offers 64 GB storage. Both models have a microSD card slot.
With selfies gaining more importance, the Chinese company has opted for a 16-MP front-facing camera. It is accompanied by an LED flash. At the back, you get a 13-MP camera. Although the phone is affordable, it does not cut down on features such as a fingerprint sensor and Infrared sensor.
The Redmi Y1 is a dual-SIM phone with 4G VoLTE support. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS. It draws power from a 3080 mAh battery. In terms of software, you get Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat.
The Xiaomi Redmi Y1 will go on sale staring from November 8. It will be available on Mi.com and Amazon India. The 3 GB variant is priced at Rs 8,999. For 4 GB RAM model, you will have to spend Rs 10,999.
