Xiaomi dominates the budget smartphone category in India. Its Redmi Note 4 has been instrumental in bringing volumes to the company of late. However, its flagship smartphone strategy has been bizarre. The last premium phone it launched in the country officially was the Mi 5. Following that, the Chinese company’s Mi 5s, Mi Mix, Mi 6, never made it to our shores. But things are bound to change now as Manu Jain, the MD of Xiaomi India, confirmed the launch date for the Mi Mix 2 for India. The event will be held on October 10 and will take place in Delhi.
The Mi Mix 2.0 promises to be smaller, slimmer, and lighter than its previous iteration. The Mi Mix 2 houses a 7-series aluminium frame positioned in between two layers of ceramic. The 6-inch screen offers FHD+ resolution with 2160×1080 pixels. It has an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone has the incredibly thin bezels, which allows the smartphone to have a screen-to-body ratio of about 93 percent. The lower chin houses a 5 MP selfie shooter, which supports FullHD video recording. Just above the display is a neatly hidden sound speaker and the proximity sensor. The rear comprises of the 12 MP Sony IMX386 camera sensor which is a single lens unit with a f/2.0 aperture and 4-axis OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) and a fingerprint sensor.
The Mi Mix 2 is equipped with Qualcomm’s flagship SoC Snapdragon 835. The device runs on Android Nougat with a Xiaomi MIUI 9 skin on top of it. It has global LTE network support with 6 modes and 43 bands, Bluetooth 5.0 and 3.5 mm audio jack. The device comes with a 3400 mAh battery with Quick charge 3.0 support.
The base model of the Mi Mix 2 is priced at 3299 yuan (approx. Rs.32,000) in China. Expect the prices to be similar in India if Xiaomi assembles the smartphone in India.
