The smartphone is priced under Rs. 10k which makes it one of the most affordable ones to feature a 32MP selfie camera. Considering price and specs, the Redmi Y3 competes against the likes of Realme 3 (launched in India on March 4) and Redmi Note 7 (launched in India on February 28). All three phones are priced under 10k and come equipped with decent set of specs. In terms of design, Xiaomi uses a polycarbonate to build for the back panel of the Redmi Y3 and the company has also included P2i coating for protection against dust and water. The phone also comes with Xiaomi’s own IR blaster. In terms of colours, there three options available for the interested buyers- Prism Black, Bold Red, and Elegant Blue. The Realme 3 touts new design language with a dewdrop display along with a unibody design and gradient colours on the outside. The rear panel gets Solid Black as standard colour along with Dynamic Black and Radiant Blue as gradient colours. The Realme 3 is also splash and dust resistant. The Redmi Note 7 gets a revamped design with gradient finish and a Dot notch at the top which houses the selfie camera. This is the first Redmi Note phone to come with Dot notched display. The back of the phone gets a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It comes in Onyx Black, Ruby Red, and Sapphire Blue colours. In our opinion, the Redmi Note 7 gets a slight upper hand due to its glass back which makes it look a bit premium as compared to the other two devices. However, design is a matter of choice, so we leave the decision up to you.

In terms of display, the Xiaomi Redmi Y3 comes equipped with a 6.26-inch screen with HD+ resolution of 720×1520 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D glass, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection (however there’s no Gorilla Glass 5 on the back). The Realme 3 sports a 6.2-inch HD+ display with screen resolution of 1520×720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9 resulting into 88.3 per cent screen-to-body ratio. The display comes with dewdrop shaped notch at the top which allows for a larger display on a handy form factor as well as a larger screen real estate. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass against accidental damage and scratches. The Redmi Note 7 also bears a similar 6.3-inch full-HD+ LTPS display with screen resolution of 1080×2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The screen also gets Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection just as its back. The Redmi Note 7 is superior to the Redmi Y3 and Realme 3 in terms of display due to its relatively larger screen and Full HD+ resolution.

In terms of dimensions, the Redmi Y3 measures 158.73 x 75.58 x 8.47 mm, and it weighs about 180 grams. The Realme 3 has dimensions of 156.1 x 75.6 x 8.3 mm and weight of 175 grams. While, the Redmi Note 7 has dimensions of 159.2 x 75.2 x 8.1 mm and it weighs in at 186 grams. So, the Redmi Note 7 is the slimmest, whereas the Realme 3 is the lightest of the three phones.

The Redmi Y3 draws its power from Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC along with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone comes with dual SIM slot and dedicated microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 512GB. The Realme 3 is powered by a 2.1GHz octa-core Helio P70 chipset and offers 3GB and 4GB of RAM options along with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage respectively. There’s Mali-G72 MP3 GPU on board for graphics. Whereas the Redmi Note 7 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE processor paired with up to 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Redmi Note 7 is undoubtedly the winner in terms of performance, thanks to its powerful Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset. However, it needs to be noted that the Redmi Note 7 does not have a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion.

The Redmi Y3 runs MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box and is backed by a 4,000mAh battery with adaptive power saving technology but it lacks support for fast charging. The Realme 3 has a 4,230mAh battery unit (which supports 10W charging) underneath to keep things ticking and it runs Google’s latest Android 9 Pie OS with custom ColorOS 6.1 layered on the top. The Redmi Note 7 backed by a 4,000mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 4 which can last up to two days on a single charge as claimed by the company. In terms of software, the device runs Android 9 Pie based on MIUI 10. In terms of pure capacity, the Realme 3 gets a slight upper hand over the other two devices but it lacks support for fast charging which is present in Redmi Note 7.

In terms of optics, all three phones come equipped with dual rear camera, but they differ in terms of configuration. The Redmi Y3 features a dual rear camera comprising of a 12MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/2.2 and a 2MP depth sensor. The Realme 3 features a 13MP f/1.8 primary sensor + a 2MP depth sensor and supports Nightscape, Hybrid HDR mode, Portrait mode, Chroma, PDAF, scene recognition et. While the Redmi Note 7 features a dual camera set up on the back consisting of a 12 MP f/2.2 primary sensor + a secondary 2 MP depth sensor.

The Redmi Y3 base model i.e. 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage is priced in India at Rs. 9,999, while the top end model of the phone includes 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage which comes with a price tag of Rs. 11,999.

The Realme 3 price starts at Rs. 8,999 for the base model with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, whereas the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage variant has been priced at Rs. 10,999.

The Redmi Note 7 is also priced at Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage variant and Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage variant.
