Touted as ‘Desh ka smartphone’ by Chinese company Xiaomi, the Redmi 5A is now available for purchase. Its base model with 2 GB RAM costs Rs 5,999. By spending a thousand rupees more, you can opt for 3 GB RAM variant, which also comes with double the internal storage at 32 GB. The phone is available via Flipkart and Xiaomi’s website. The phone is aggressively priced, yet to sweeten the deal further, Xiaomi has thrown in a Rs 1000 discount for the first 5 lakh customers.
Jio has also announced an effective pricing scheme for this phone which would yield another Rs 1000 in the form of cashback. The smartphone is up for grabs in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold colours. If purchased via Mi.com you get a 12-month free subscription of Hungama Music.
The Redmi 5A is a dual-SIM phone with 4G VoLTE calling capabilities. It is a proper dual standby phone and comes with a dedicated microSD card slot which can take up to 128 GB memory card. The phone sports a 5-inch HD display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. It is powered by Snapdragon 425 SoC (System on Chip) clocked at 1.4 GHz. It offers a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture coupled with an LED flash. The selfie shooter is a 5 MP module with f/2.0 aperture.
Despite being a budget smartphone, it doesn’t skip accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and proximity sensor. The Redmi 5A packs in a 3000 mAh battery and runs on MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.
