Xiaomi Mi Play vs ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 vs Realme U1: Design and Display

The Xiaomi Mi Play is the first smartphone from Xiaomi to feature water drop shaped display notch. However, the notch isn’t as striking as in Realme U1. From the back side, the phone looks like a premium phone due to its plastic body with gradient finish which looks like glass. The back features a vertically stacked dual camera along with fingerprint sensor. The Realme U1 looks identical to the Realme 2 Pro but is more compact and handier. It has a glass-finish in three different colours of blue, black and gold. Overall the phone looks premium without being too flashy at the same time. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 comes with a glossy back in comparison to the metal panel seen on the Zenfone Max Pro M1. However, the glossy back is very prone to smudges and fingerprints. The rear features a vertically stacked dual camera placed at the top left corner and a centrally placed fingerprint sensor. The display has a more conventional notch than the latest water drop shaped one. The access to volume rocker on the right is a bit of a stretch as it is placed above the power button. But the overall curved design makes it easy to use the phone with one hand despite its big size.

In terms of display, the Xiaomi Mi Play features a 5.84-inch full-HD+ display along with 1080×2280 pixel screen resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The ASUS Zenfone Max Pro M2 features a larger 6.28-inch IPS LCD full-HD+ screen with 1080 x 2280 pixel resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. While the Realme U1 comes with 6.3-inch FHD+ display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 2340×1080 pixel resolution.

In terms of dimension, the Xiaomi Mi Play measures 147.76 x 71.89 x 7.8 and weighs about 150 grams. The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 has dimensions of 157.9 x 75.5 x 8.5 and weight of 170 grams. The Realme U1 measures 157 x 74 x 8 mm and weighs in at 168 grams. So, the Xiaomi Mi Play is the slimmest and the lightest of the three phones.

In terms of display, the Realme U1 is a winner due to its bigger size and better resolution. However, it needs to be noted that ASUS smartphone sports the latest Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
