Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro with Snapdragon 845 SoC and IR Face Unlock Launched in China

Earlier this year, Xiaomi launched its Mi 8 smartphone at its annual product launch event held in May. Now, the company has announced another variant of the same dubbed as Mi 8 Pro. The difference between the two handsets is that the Mi 8 Pro has an in-display fingerprint scanner instead of a rear mounted one as found in Mi 8. The fingerprint scanner is pressure-sensitive in nature just like Mi 8 Explorer. In addition, the phone also has an IR face unlock for security purpose.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro: Price and Availability

The Mi 8 Pro is already available on pre-order from today i.e. 19 September and is priced at CNY 3200 (approx. Rs. 34,000) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant and CNY 3600 (approx. Rs. 38,000) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The shipping will start from 25 September. The phone has a transparent back and comes in two color options- Twilight Gold and Ochre Black.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro: Hardware and Software Configuration

The Mi 8 Pro flaunts 6.21-inch AMOLED display with 2,248 x 1,080 pixel resolution, 402 ppi pixel density and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9. The display comes with Always-On Display features. The phone runs Android Oreo 8.1-based MIUI 10 out of the box and is backed by a 3,400mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ support for fast charging. Under the hood, the device draws power from the Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and Adreno 630 GPU. The inbuilt storage capacity of the device is 128GB.

For the camera buffs, the Mi 8 Pro features a pair of 12-megapixel sensors on the rear with the secondary sensor being a telephoto lens. For selfies, there’s a 20-megapixel snapper with IR face unlock. In addition, the selfie camera also features AI Beauty Mode, AI Scene Detection, AI Portrait Mode and HDR.
