Xiaomi Mi 6XChinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has added another mid-range smartphone to its lineup- The Mi 6X. The phone was launched yesterday at an event in Wuhan University, China and is successor of last year’s Mi 5X, which was rebranded as Mi A1 for other markets including India. The Mi 6X is also expected to be re-branded and launched outside of China as Mi A2 later this year, but there is no official confirmation of this by the company.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X will be available in four memory variants. The base variant with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage CNY 1,599 (roughly Rs. 16,900). The 4GB RAM + 64GB variant comes with a price tag of CNY 1,700 (roughly Rs. 19,000), whereas the top most 6GB RAM + 128GB memory variant is priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly 21,000). The phone will be available in five color options- Cherry Blossom Pink, Fiery Red, Quicksand Gold, Glacier Blue, and Black. It will go on sale in China from April 27.

Just like any other Xiaomi phone, the Mi 6X is also a power packed phone that comes with a affordable price tag. In terms of design, the phone looks very similar to Redmi Note 5 Pro especially due to the vertically stacked dual camera with LED flash consisting of 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor with f/1.75 aperture + 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The front hosts a 20MP IMX376 camera with LED flash for selfies and video calls. The selfie sensor uses AI for bokeh images and also features face unlock. The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back.

The AI feature of Mi 6X revolves more around camera but goes beyond the basic scene recognition to AI-powered object recognition which can not only can translate text from menus/manuals but can also identify food and inform users of how its calorie content. The Mi 6X also features Xiaomi’s in-house personal assistant, Xiao Ai which is Xiaomi’s take on the Google Assistant and Apple Siri.

The Mi 6X will feature a 5.99-inch display with FullHD+ resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The screen has an aspect ratio of 18:9, pixel density of 403 ppi and features very thin bezels on the sides. Under the hood, there’s an octa-core Qualcomm 2.2GHz Snapdragon 660 SoC clubbed with Adreno 512 GPU. which is a great upgrade to Snapdragon 636 that powers the Redmi Note 5 Pro. This make it one of the most powerful smartphones in its price segment.

All of this is backed by a 3,010mAh battery with USB Type-C and support for fast charging (Quick Charge 3.0). Company claims that the battery can charge up to 50% in 30 minutes. The device comes with Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9 out of the box. The connectivity options include- dual-band gigabit Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Miracast screen mirroring, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, IR emitter, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone port.

The Xiaomi Mi 6X comes loaded with a lot of features which one can hardly get any other smartphone in the similar price range. So, if you are looking for a phone in the sub Rs. 20,000 segment, the Mix 6X is definitely an option worth to consider.
