Xiaomi dominates the budget smartphone category in India. And with its newest launch, the Chinese company seems to be consolidating its position in the entry-level smartphone segment. Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A is now available in India, and it labeled ‘Desh Ka Smartphone’.
Unlike most Xiaomi phones, the Redmi 5A drops the metal body to keep the price in check. Its plastic body does feature a faux metal matte finish though. The phone sports a 5-inch HD screen.
The Redmi 5A is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 chipset. That’s a better choice considering that a more expensive Nokia 2 comes with the less powerful Snapdragon 200 SoC (System on Chip). The phone will be available in 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM variants.
For camera buffs, Xiaomi offers 13 MP rear camera. It comes with an LED flash and supports HDR. For selfies, there’s a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The 4G VoLTE smartphone comes with dual SIM support. It also packs in a dedicated microSD card slot. On the connectivity front, you get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, IR blaster, and A-GPS. It has a 3000 mAh battery.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5A will be up for purchase from Flipkart starting on December 7. The base model with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage is priced at Rs 4,999. The 3 GB RAM variant with 32 GB internal storage costs Rs 6,999.
