Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi recently launched Redmi S2 smartphone in China touted as selfie king, thanks to the thanks to a bunch of artificial intelligence (AI) powered features. If you are a Xiaomi fan in India, here’s good news for you. The company has announced the launch of a new smartphone in India at an event to be held in Delhi on June 7. Company posted a teaser video on its official twitter handle in India with a caption “Every step in your life is defined by a selfie. Find yourself, #FindYourSelfie The BEST selfie smartphone is arriving soon. “Interestingly, another Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has created a new sub-brand in India named as Realme. So, Xiaomi seems to be taking a dig at Oppo with the #RealYou.

Xiaomi’s Global VP and MD of Xiaomi India – Manu Kumar Jain, has also tweeted with his selfie saying, “Mi Fans! BEST selfie phone is coming soon!” He also boasts about Xiaomi being the no. 1 smartphone brand in India for the 3rd quarter running according to IDC report and reveals that the company has moved to a new office.

Although, none of the tweets reveal the name of device to be launched but the teaser video puts an emphasis on letter ‘Y’ highlighted in red color, which hints at a latest smartphone from the company’s Y series. So, our guess is it would be Redmi Y2 which is a rebranded version of Redmi S2 and a successor of last year’s Redmi Y1. Notably, the Redmi Y1 was also a selfie-centric smartphone

Redmi Y2 Pricing:

The Redmi Y2 base variant of 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage is priced at CNY 999 (roughly Rs. 10,600) and top variant of 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage is priced at CNY 1299 (roughly Rs. 13,800). Both variants will go on sale in China from May 17. Of course, the price in India won’t be exactly as converted above but will be in the similar range. Color options available to to the user are Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver and Rose Gold.

Redmi Y2 Design, Features and Specifications:

The Redmi Y2 rocks a full-metal unibody and sports a bezel-less display with aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone features a 5.99-inch HD+ resolution display with 1440 x 720 pixels resolution. Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage depending on the variant. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB, thanks to the dedicated microSD card slot. The dual-SIM phone is backed by a 3,080mAh battery (without fast charging support) and runs on MIUI 9 based on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.

In terms of optics, there’s a dual camera setup on the rear comprising of 12MP primary sensor + 5MP secondary sensor. The front camera is 16MP with AI-driven Portrait mode and face recognition. Connectivity options include VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, IR Blaster, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm audio jack, and a MicroUSB 2.0 port.
