Xiaomi-backed gaming smartphone brand Black Shark has announced that its first smartphone will debut in the European market on November 16. The smartphone is believed to be the world’s first liquid-cooled smartphone. This is the first instance when Xiaomi Black Shark will be available for sale outside its home country China.

The Black Shark will sport a green and black coloured design aesthetic and will offer DCI-P3 wide colour gamut support. The gaming phone will charge quickly and seamlessly as it will be powered by Quick Charge 3.0 support. With the Black Shark, Xiaomi will take on the Razer Phone launched last year. The Razer phone was targeted to the premium mobile-focused gamers market.

To celebrate the occasion of its global availability, Xiaomi will make the Black Shark smartphone available with certain pre-order discounts. There will also be gift cards lined up as part of the Black Shark Lootbox Challenge. What’s more, a few lucky winners will receive the Xiaomi Black Shark smartphone for free.

The series of events that led to the global launch of the Black Shark began with the global website of the smartphone going live. The website went live last month and enabled users to sign-up to receive launch information and updates. Subsequently, teasers for early support were sent out a few days before the global launch. Xiaomi has also announced the Black Shark Helo, the successor to the Black Shark in China. However, the global launch of the Black Shark Helo is yet to be confirmed by Xiaomi.

The smartphone was launched in China in April 2018. It comes with a price tag of CNY 2,999 which roughly converts to Rs. 31,400 for the base variant comprising 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 8GB RAM+128GB inbuilt storage variant comes with a price tag of CNY 3,499 which converts to around Rs. 36,600. The smartphone is available in two colour options currently – the Polar Night and Sky Grey. The pricing and colour scheme options for the European market has not yet been revealed by the company.

The Black Shark feature a dual-SIM (Nano). It runs the Android Oreo OS and features a 5.99-inch full-HD display. The resolution of the display is 1080×2160 pixels. The IPS LCD display panel comes with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a pixel density of 403ppi. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. It is paired with an Adreno 630 GPU, 6GB/ 8GB of RAM, and 64GB/ 128GB of internal storage depending on the variant of the smartphone. Storage is not expandable externally.

In the camera department, the Xiaomi Black Shark bears a dual rear camera setup. The rear cameras boast of a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary sensor. Each sensor comes with a f/1.8 aperture. The primary sensor has a pixel size of 1.25 micron and the secondary sensor has a pixel size of 1.0-micron. The selfie camera of the gaming smartphone features a 20-megapixel shooter with f/2.2 aperture and 1.0-micron pixel size. The gaming phone is powered by a non-removable battery of capacity 4,000mAh.

The smartphone comes with a host of connectivity options including 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS/ A-GPS, GLONASS, and a USB Type-C port.
