Chinese smartphone makers have started introducing sub-brands. Xiaomi is the latest to join in by announcing the launch of its sub-brand “Pocophone” or “Poco”. This comes close to the heels of OPPO’s announcement of its online-only sub brand “Realme” in India.

This “Pocophone” by Xiaomi will be christened as “POCO” in India. This news was unveiled by Jai Mani, who is the lead product manager at the company. However, nothing more has been revealed about the product by the product manager or the company. It is widely believed that the first smartphone from the Pocophone stable could be the Pocophone F1.

The Pocophone F1 was seen on the website of a Romanian retailer a few days ago. The website gave details about the specifications, price as well as the image of the smartphone.

If the listing is to be believed, the Pocophone F1 will be powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC. It will be paired with 8 GB RAM. It will sport a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ IPS display and a resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone will be powered by a 4000 mAh battery. In addition, the smartphone will possess a liquid cooling system which indicates that it may be marketed as a gaming smartphone.

The GPU of the smartphone, as per the reports available, will be Adreno 630. It will run the MIUI 9 Operating System which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

The rear camera of the smartphone is expected to sport sensors of 12 MP + 5 MP accompanied by a dual LED flash. The selfie camera is expected to come with a 20 MP sensor. The internal storage of the smartphone will be 64 GB which will be expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card.

The Pocophone F1 is expected to support dual hybrid SIMS. It is set to offer connectivity through various options such as 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB Type-C. Some other significant features that are expected include the Fingerprint Scanner, IR Face Unlock, Liquid Cooling etc. The 4000mAh battery of the phone will support Quick Charge 3.0 to enable faster charging of the smartphone.

As per the listing, the Pocophone F1 comes at a price tag of RON 1999 which converts to around ₹34,256. This is Xiaomi’s second sub-brand launch. In April this year, it had launched the sub-brand “Black Shark” under which it launched the Black Shark gaming smartphone.

The company is expected to unveil more on the new sub-brand in the next few weeks. It could be as early as a few days.
