Freedom 251, The World’s ‘Cheapest’ Smartphone Now ‘Made In India’!by Sayli Jadhav February 17, 2016
At a point in time where we are cribbing about everything from onion prices to paying extra taxes, Ringing bells has come up with its cheapest smartphone. You heard that one right! This (super) low-cost smartphone is called Freedom 251 and will soon be available at a price of 251INR only. Considering the current exchange rate the price is just under $4. Even smartphone covers cost more these days!
The smartphone complies with the Make in India program launched by the government. At present the government’s contribution to it is unclear and we can expect to know more about it after its official launch by the defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on 17th of February at an event. The event will be attended by top officials like a few members of the parliament. The phone will be available and can be booked from their website from 18th onwards. At present only 14% of the country’s population has access to smartphones and the freedom 251 is all set to turn these tables.
The phone has a 4inch IPS display with a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor. This coupled with a 1GB RAM and 8 GB internal memory capacity. The memory capacity can be expanded externally with a micro SD card up to 32 GB.
The phone has 3G support and Wi-Fi connectivity. It operates on Android lollipop OS. The rear camera is a 3.2-megapixel while the front comes with a 0.3-megapixel camera.
It also has a 1450 mAh battery making sure you don’t run out of power too soon. Ringing bells have promised its users over 650 service centers and will also provide it’s users a one year warranty on the new phone. The Freedom 251 is about to change the world! While most of its features seem similar to most other smartphones in the market, the price is what makes all the difference.
The phone will also have a few apps pre-installed for its users to provide a great experience. Some of these apps are for the benefit of the common people, like the Women Saftey and the Swachh Bharat app. It also comes with other everyday use applications like those for farming or medical services. It is also updated for entertainment with apps like Whatsapp, facebook and youtube.
Although the phone is up for grabs on their official website from 6 AM on the 18th, it might take a couple of months before the phone is shipped to its users.
The smartphone is a milestone in the process of empowering the country, in terms of both generating employment and transforming India’s growth story. Ringing bells Pvt. limited, which was founded in September 2015 by Mohit Kumar, Sushma Devi, and Rajesh Kumar, is all set to take the smartphone market by a storm! The company has 4 products listed on their website, one of them being a 4G smartphone priced at around 3,000 INR. The Freedom 251, however, is expected to change their fortune along with millions of other people all across the globe.
