If you’re someone who has tried making video calls using Skype, Viber, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat and almost every other video calling app, here’s another one for you! WhatsApp just launched an update with its new video calling feature. This feature is supported on all devices that have Android 4.1 and above. It is also available for Windows and iOS users. All you need to do it update the application on your phone.
How To Make a Video Call?
To keep it simple, the video calling option is available with the call feature itself. Simply click on the call button, and choose from video call or voice call. You can also switch between the front and rear camera once the call is on. Available for only two users at a time, this new feature will detect your network quality and accordingly improve the quality or your video calls.
Steps To Get Started
Here’s how you can get the updated version:
Step 1) Open Google Play or your app store
Step 2) search for WhatsApp
*if the application has not been updated already, you will find an ‘update’ option*
Step 3) Update your application. That’s it!
WhatsApp, in one of their blogs, said “We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough. There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks”
What All Can You Do On WhatsApp
The app has got a lot of updates in the past few months; it now allow users to draw or use Emoji stickers on photos and videos being taken from the camera. You can now send GIFs to your friends too! WhatsApp is also working towards adding a two-factor authentication feature to provide security in order to prevent identity theft in the future.
The end-to-end encryption security system makes sure that neither the government nor the company can look into your messages or listen to your calls over the app.
While iPhone users bragged about their face time feature and we struggled to get a glimpse of our loved ones on Skype, a video calling feature on WhatsApp could be a big move for the users as well as the company itself. The mobility and convenience that comes along with being able to make video calls so easily is definitely a big boon for all the users.
Judging from its call quality, it seems like the video calls might allow you to move beyond the ‘can you hear me’ phase in the conversation. This means you can connect to people in real time and make your friend jealous while you’re at a concert or watch your mom make your favourite dish, miles away. The new video calling feature is expected to widen its user base. This also brings WhatsApp on par with some of the other not-so-popular messaging apps that provided a video calling feature.
