Vodafone Partners With Micromax To Launch Bharat 2 VoLTE Smartphone
To fight off the Jio Phone, Indian telecom operators are teaming up with affordable phone makers. First, Airtel partnered with the domestic manufacturer Celkon to launch a dirt-cheap 4G VoLTE smartphone. Now it is Vodafone’s turn to collaborate with India’s top budget phone brand Micromax. Dubbed as the Bharat 2 Ultra, this handset will be available at an effective price of Rs 999.
Much like the Airtel and JioPhone plans, Vodafone’s offer comes with strings attached. Customers will have to spend Rs 2,899 upfront to purchase the phone. Upon putting up with the phone for 18 months, the buyer will get a refund of Rs 900. The next refund comes upon completion of 3-years. Vodafone will then offer a cash back or Rs 1,000 in its “M-Pesa” wallet. If you do the math, the handset cost goes down to Rs 999.
The Bharat 2 Ultra smartphone is powered by Spreadtrum SC9832 chip clocked at 1.3 GHz. To keep price in check, it settles for paltry 512 MB RAM and 4 GB internal storage. It features a compact 4-inch screen with 800 x 480 pixels. You get a 2 MP rear camera and 0.3 MP front-facing camera. The latter is not fit for selfies.
The 4G VoLTE handset covers other connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and A-GPS. The Bharat 2 Ultra comes with a 1300 mAh battery. It runs Android Marshmallow out of the box.
