Vivo Y89 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro vs Realme 2 Pro: Battle of Chinese Budget Phones
China-based smartphone maker Vivo launched its Vivo Y91 smartphone in India couple of weeks back and recently the company expanded its Y series with the launch of Vivo Y89 smartphone in its hometown. As Vivo has launched most of its Y series smartphones in India, we can expect the Y89 also to hit the Indian market soon. The sole variant of the phone i.e. 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage is priced in China at CNY 1598 which roughly translates to Rs. 16,700. Considering the price and specifications, the Vivo Y89 is expected to compete against the likes of Redmi Note 6 Pro and Realme 2 Pro. Today we’ll compare the three phones in order to figure out which phone is good in terms of specifications and provides a better value for buyer’s money.
We’ve taken below parameters into consideration for the comparison,
- Design, Display and Dimensions
- Processor and Memory
- OS and Battery Capacity
- Camera Configuration
- Price
Vivo Y89 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro vs Realme 2 Pro: Design, Display and Dimensions
Vivo hasn’t brought too many design changes in the Y89 when compared to the last few Y series phones. It comes with a wide notch at the top of the display which houses the selfie camera and the bezels surrounding the phone are minimal, but you can still find the chin at the bottom. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the back while the power and volume rocker are placed on the right edge of the smartphone. The phone is available in Aurora Purple and Black Gold color options.
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 6 Pro comes with the same old glass and metal design as its predecessor which looks a bit bland. It also features a very wide display notch at the top (thanks to dual front camera set up) and has thick bezels along with a prominent chin. The phone is thin as well as light but is quite long, which doesn’t make it a great piece for one-hand usability. The back features a vertically stacked dual camera which is placed on the top left corner. The phone will be available in Black, Rose Gold, Blue and Red color options.
Design is one of the key selling points of Realme 2 Pro at this price range. The rear panel is reflective and glossy. The company has replaced the plastic diamond-patterned back with what it calls a “Dewdrop back cover.” It’s polycarbonate and appears to have a second transparent layer. The display comes with a unique dew drop shaped notch which makes the phone look fresh. The phone comes in three attractive color options- Ice Lake, Blue Ocean, and Black Sea.
Although design is a matter of choice, our vote goes to Realme 2 Pro and we believe most of you will agree with us.
In terms of display, the Vivo Y89 comes with a pretty big display that measures 6.26-inches and has full HD+ screen of 1580 x 1080 pixel resolution along with 19:9 aspect ratio. The display features 2.5D curved glass, and an unspecified screen protection. The Redmi Note 6 Pro bears a 6.26-inch fullHD+ screen (1080 x 2280 pixels), stretched in a 19:9 aspect ratio. The Screen has an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen but lacks the maximum brightness levels. The screen is covered with a 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass. The Realme 2 Pro comes equipped with a 6.3-inch FHD+ dewdrop display with screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19:5:9 aspect ratio and 409 ppi pixel density. So, the Realme 2 Pro outshines the other two with its near-bezel less design and that tiny ‘waterdrop’ notch at the top.
In terms of dimensions, the Vivo Y89 measures 154.8 x 75 x 7.9 mm and weighs about 150 grams. The Redmi Note 6 Pro has dimensions of 157.91 x 76.38 x 8.26 mm and weight of 182 grams. The Realme 2 Pro measures 156.7 x 74 x 8.5 mm and weighs about 174 grams. So, the Vivo Y89 is the slimmest and the lightest of the three phones.
Vivo Y89 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro vs Realme 2 Pro: Processor and Memory
The Vivo Y89 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor and is available only in one variant i.e. 4GB RAM + 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 256GB via microSD card. The Redmi Note 6 Pro draws power from an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC along with an Adreno 509 GPU, 4GB or 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage. The storage is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card, but you will lose access to one of the SIM cards. While the Realme 2 Pro ships with the most superior chipset in this group, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660AIE. The phone is offered in three RAM variants- 4GB, 6GB and 8GB. The 4GB and 6GB RAM options offer 64GB of internal storage, while the top-end 8GB RAM variant offers 128GB of internal storage. All the variants offer storage expandability up to 256GB by means of a microSD card. So, the Realme 2 Pro is a clear winner in terms of performance.

On the front, there’s a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and AI Beauty 2.0 for better selfies. Notably, the Realme 2 Pro is the only phone here that can record 4K videos.
In our opinion, the Redmi Note 6 Pro grabs the top spot as it has a better camera set up as compared to the other two. The Realme 2 Pro grabs the second spot.
