Vivo has launched the first smartphone ever to be powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. The launch of the Vivo Y83 has been announced within two days of the official launch of the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset.

The Vivo Y83 features a full-screen bezel-less display. It also packs in a notch design on top like most of the newly launched smartphones. The design of the smartphone has been tastefully done. The Y83 comes with a premium all-glass design.

Vivo Y83 was launched in China in an almost stealth manner unlike the other Vivo phones which are launched with events, marketing promotions and fanfare.

The Vivo Y83 has a metallic body and high-gloss coating technology has been applied to the rear panel to give it a mirror finish. To ensure that it appeals to youngsters and millennial population, the smartphone has been launched in three colours namely Aurora White, Polar Black and Red.

The Vivo Y83 is slotted in the lower mid-range smartphone category. In terms of its specifications and features, it boasts of a large 6.22-inch IPS high definition (HD+) display with a screen resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. The aspect ratio offered by the smartphone is 19:9.

Under the hood, it features MediaTek Helio P22 chip which comes with octa-core processor. The smartphone features eight Cortex A53 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz each and has been manufactured using the 12nm FinFet process. The MediaTek Helio P22 also features the company’s Neuropilot tech which comes with support for machine learning tools such as TensorFlow, TF Lite, Caffe and Caffe 2.

The processor is paired with 4GB LPDDR3 RAM. In terms of internal storage, the phone offers 64GB of storage expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card slot. The Vivo Y83 supports dual SIM, and it has a distinct and different tray for SD card. The users can, thus, get rid of having to compromise a SIM slot whenever they want to expand the internal storage using a microSD card.

The Vivo Y83 boasts of a rear camera of 13MP f/2.2 aperture with LED flash. In the front panel, the smartphone packs an 8MP sensor that is complemented by artificial intelligence and a face recognition algorithm. The Vivo Y83 possesses the Face Unlock feature as a primary mode of security.

In terms of battery, the smartphone packs a 3260mAh battery inside the device. The Vivo Y83 is powered by Vivo’s custom operating system – the FunTouch OS 4.0 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The smartphone is priced at around Rs 16000. The Vivo Y83 is up for sale in China through the company’s online retail stores. Vivo also offers free protective case and earphones within the box that is shipped along with the smartphone.
