Vivo NEX Set to Launch on June 12: Official Teasers Are Out

by June 3, 2018

Vivo recently launched Vivo X21 in India which is the first in the country to sport an in-screen display. Now, the company is preparing to launch another smartphone dubbed as Vivo NEX. The smartphone was unveiled by the company at the start of the year (at MWC 2018) as Vivo Apex, but now it seems to have changed the name to Vivo NEX. Company has officially teased the phone with promo images via Chinese social micro-blogging site Weibo with captions like “pursuit of excellence never stops” and it is “creating a futuristic experience”

What’s special about the Vivo NEX?

The Vivo NEX is expected to have full-screen display without any bezels and with an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 95 percent, just like the Lenovo Z5. In order to achieve this, the company has ditched the notch and has placed the selfie camera in an unusual manner that pops out like a periscope from the top of the device through a motorised module. Another special feature is in-display fingerprint scanner similar to Vivo X21, which further helps in achieving higher screen-to-body ratio.

Speculated Specifications of Vivo NEX:

Based on the past leaks, the Vivo NEX is expected to sport an OLED display with Full HD+ resolution and a tall ratio. The top variant of Vivo NEX may be powered by Snapdragon 845 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and could be priced at CNY 6,998 (roughly Rs. 73,000 and $1,090). The storage capacity of this variant will be 128GB.

The company is expected to launch an affordable variant of NEX with trimmed down Snapdragon 710 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and will be priced at CNY 4,998 (roughly Rs. 52,140 and $779). The storage capacity of this variant will be 256GB and will have a slightly different design wherein the selfie camera may be placed on the right corner of the bottom bezel instead of popping up from the top. A recent Chinese 3C certification report lists a third variant dubbed as NEX A, however there are no specifications mentioned except that it will support fast 9V/2A charging over USB-C.

Well, these are just speculations and we’ll have to wait for the official launch of Vivo NEX on June 12 to confirm the same. We can expect a few more teasers from the company in the meanwhile. Stay tuned and we’ll cover them all for you.
