Vivo created a buzz in the market with the launch of its NEX smartphone that comes with a unique slider camera set up in order to improve screen-to-body ratio. And now the company is again creating buzz with the launch of its successor, the Vivo NEX 2 (aka Vivo NEX Dual), which comes with a unique dual display and triple rear camera set up. The company wants to make it easier to take selfies by putting a second display on the back, right below the primary camera setup. The camera set up not only features portrait mode but is also capable of capturing 3D imagery for better facial recognition and AR experiences.

Vivo NEX 2 Software and Hardware Configuration

The Vivo NEX 2 features two display panels- a 6.39-inch full-HD+ AMOLED panel at the front with 1080×2340 pixel resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio + a 5.49-inch full-HD AMOLED panel at the back with 1080×1920 pixel screen resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. The front display also incorporates in-display fingerprint sensor to unlock the device.  Powering the device is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. In terms of memory, there’s 10GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. All of this is backed by a 3,500mAh with support for 22.5W fast charging. In terms of software, the device runs Android 9 Pie-based FunTouchOS out of the box and comes with the company’s Jovi digital assistant.

Unlike its predecessor, the NEX Dual Screen doesn’t have a retractable selfie camera. In fact, it doesn’t have a selfie camera and relies on its triple camera module on the back panel for the same, thanks to the secondary display on the back which eliminates the need of a separate front camera. The triple camera set up consists of a 12-megapixel primary sensor with OIS (f/1.79 aperture) + a 2-megapixel secondary night vision sensor (f/1.8 aperture), and a third TOF 3D stereo camera sensor.
