Phones have gotten a lot smarter. Apart from letting you make a call, send a text message and browse the internet, your phone offers you much more. But, what if all of these features were built inside a pen? Yes, the same pen that you write with. Sounds crazy, isn’t it? But, that is now a reality.

Phree, introduced by OTM Technologies, is a smartpen that is compatible with a phone or a tablet. At the first glance, the device might look like a standard-sized stylus. But, it has something more added to it.

The pen connects with your phone via a Bluetooth and is compatible with numerous apps like EverNote, Viber, OneNote and Office to name a few. Unlike other smarpens available, this one has a built-in screen that can be viewed even when it is not connected to a phone.

Moreover, the device can also be used as a Bluetooth headset. So, you don’t have to pull your phone out of your pocket every time you get a call. The pen can efficiently write on numerous types of surfaces, for instance a floor, table or even a wall. Simply scribble on any surface and the same content will be visible on your phone. Now, that’s interesting, isn’t it? Plus you can also reply to text messages using the pen. The device can also be used as biometric ID equipment as it can precisely analyse the way an individual writes.

In terms of design, the Phree looks quite innovative, something you’ve probably never seen before. However, the thickness may cause a trouble for many. You may probably have a hard time wrapping your fingers around it and finding the right grip.

Unlike the ordinary styluses, this one uses laser technology for motion tracking as a result of which notations are rightly displayed on the smartphones or other connected devices. Using Phree, you can record almost every kind of information and mark up photos and documents.

What about the price?

Well, the device is available at a discounted price of $129 (approx Rs. 8200) against the actual price of $169 (approx Rs. 10706). No doubt, it does sound a bit expensive. But, hey! It is not just a pen, but something that can do almost everything that your smartphone can, and above all, can easily fit into your pocket.
