In what would be music to the ears of all Lumia fans around the world, rumours having been doing rounds that Microsoft is working on launching two new flagship phones. According to the news leaks, both the models would be high-end Smartphones and they would be sized differently. Codenamed “Cityman” and “Talkman”, these devices boast of specifications that would place them at the very top of the current smartphone pile.
The Lumia Cityman, the bigger brother of the two, as rumours suggests would be a flagship phablet and it will sport a 5.7-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (QHD). Well, better late than never, with this model, Microsoft will finally find itself featured in the Phablet segment. This means Windows mobile will be finally joining the rest of the smartphone crowd in terms of display specifications at the very least but hold your horses, there is a lot more to come.
The Cityman packs in a powerful hardware specification, which would leave you in awe. New leaks suggests that, the Cityman will come packed with an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 32 GB Internal Storage Space, a slot for microSD card for additional storage and 3 GB RAM. With such specification, you can be sure that you are going to have a seamless multi-tasking experience. For all the mobile photography aficionados, the phone offers you a 20 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front camera. That is not all, the news leak also suggests that the phone will feature a 3,300 mAh removable battery that would keep your phone up and running all day long.
The Lumia Talkman, as the news leak suggests will feature a 5.2 inch QHD screen, which is much smaller than the Cityman. Under the hood will be a hexa-core Qualcomm processor and 3GB RAM. The camera specification of this phone will be same as Cityman. Another variation between the two modes is that Talkman will have a 3,000 mAh battery. Considering the phone is supposed to have a QHD display, the battery many not provide sufficient juice to last all day.
The report also adds that Microsoft will try to keep both the smartphones slimmer than the Lumia 930. Furthermore, both the Lumia handsets are believed to feature a 64-bit processor, which will sport a triple-LED flash with each LED dedicated for a different shade.
As far as the operating system, these new handsets will be running the latest version of Windows OS, Windows 10. As Microsoft showed off at its BUILD developer’s conference last week, that could give them a couple more killer features, such as continuum in which attaching a keyboard, mouse and a display to a windows 10 phone turns it into miniature PC running full-fledged windows software. Additionally with the ability to run android and iOS apps, these phones would not only be at hardware parity but they could have access to more software than the competition.
From a specifications point of view, the two phones could very well revitalise what a number of experts consider a stagnant market of low and mid-tier Windows phones. While Microsoft may be on the right track with the release of these phones slated to hit the market later this year, it’s not clear, however, how much of an impact would these two Microsoft babies would make in the already overcrowded Smartphone market. Also, there is no official word yet about the prices of the phones; it would be interesting to see if Microsoft’s Cityman and Talkman would become the talk of the town. Currently Microsoft holds less 3% share of the smartphone market and it would be hoping that these two models would revive its fortunes and garner a larger market share.
