Google’s co-founder Mr. Larry Page recently announced a massive restructuring of its core business and other myriad ventures into a constellation of companies named Alphabet. Replacing Mr. Page, an Indian origin Mr. Sundar Pichai will be the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Google.
The new and slimmed-down Google will retain its core businesses such as search, apps, Maps, ads, Android and You Tube. With this reorganization, the parent company Alphabet will include Calico, X lab, life sciences units and other big bets besides Google and will be run by Mr. Page, while Google’s co-founder Mr. Sergey Brin will be the president.
According to Mr. Page, when they were considering this restructuring, Sundar Pichai came as the natural choice to lead Google. This new structure will help the giant tech company to tremendously focus on the extraordinary prospects in the dynamic technology industry.
Let’s get to know the new CEO of Google a tad better:
1. He is the First Non-white CEO of Google
For the first time, Google will be lead by a non-white CEO. Pichai Sundararajan, better known as Sundar Pichai, 43, is a Chennai native, who graduated from IIT Kharagpur and later went to Stanford for a masters and MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, is all set to take charge of a bit slimmed down Google. Before joining Google, he worked as management consultant at McKinsey and also has a stint at Applied Materials in his bag.

3. He is the Man Behind Google Chrome
Pichai joined Google in the year 2004 and was a part of the team that worked on Google’s search toolbars. He proposed that Google should have its own browser and spearheaded the creation of the popular Google Chrome, which holds over 32 percent of the total browser market on computers and mobiles.

4. Journey from VP to SVP
After Google Chrome became a runaway hit, Pichai was promoted to vice president (VP) and later on in 2012 he became the senior vice president (SVP). He was largely responsible for the creation of Google’s apps such as Gmail, Google Drive and Google video codec. By this time this hard working and down to earth man had already joined the L-team’s club at Google, reporting directly to none other than Mr. Page. On becoming the Product Chief of the company, Google+ and Google Maps also came under his wings.
5. As Android Chief

Android, the most popular mobile operating system in the world, was yet another product that came under Pichai’s watch after stepping into Andy Rubin’s shoes. In 2012, Pichai’s version of Chrome browser for Android mobile was announced by Google.
6. He’s the Right Hand of Larry Page
Larry Page increasingly relied on him and since last year’s restructuring, Pichai was the unofficial No. 2 in this mammoth tech company. Since taking over Android, he has created interdisciplinary teams from search and Android departments and has been incredibly popular with the 55,000 employees of the organisation.
Having a shrewd instinct for various products coupled with business savvy Pichai, a versatile executive came across as the first choice to lead Google.
