Recently, we heard the rumoured specifications of Sony’s upcoming flagship phones, the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. Apart from the preliminary info there wasn’t much concrete to talk about. But, today both the devices are revealed in full glory and thanks to Evan Blass of @Evleaks.

The good news is that, Sony has finallly revamped its design without losing the Xperia essence. These new smartphones come with tall 18:9 aspect ratio displays. These would be the first wave of Sony handsets to adopt thin-bezel design philosophy. Gone are the thick top and bottom bezels and also the corners are now rounded, which would make it more ergonomic. The handsets are made with an aluminium frame sandwiched between the curved glass on the front and back.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 will sport a 5.7-inch screen while the XZ2 Compact will have a smaller 5-inch FHD+ 18:9 display. The displays get Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. These are set to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, which is the latest from Qualcomm.

On the photography front, there is a single lens 19-megapixel camera at the rear with f/1.8 aperture camera. It is capable of 4K HDR recording video recording and super-slow motion capture. The front selfie shooters might wear dual lenses. The fingerprint sensor is placed to the rear of the phone unlike the side mounted ones on previous Sony handsets.

The XZ2 being the expensive of the two gets front-firing stereo speakers with a haptic feedback system which syncs the vibrations to the tune. The XZ2 also gets NFC and wireless charging support as the picture posted by Evan Blass @evleaks suggests. The XZ2 Compact misses out on stereo speakers and wireless charging. The handsets may come with IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

The XZ2 will feature a 3180mAh battery while XZ2 Compact will make do with a relatively smaller 2870mAh battery unit. Both the handsets will run on Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with Sony’s custom skin on top.

The leaked press renders also reveal the colour palette. It is seen sporting Silver, Green, Black, Copper and Rose Gold colours. Sony is set to unveil these devices at the MWC 2018 (Mobile World Congress) on 26th February.
