Sony PS4 Pro, PS4 Slim and the PlayStation VR launched in Indiaby Ryan Dsouza February 3, 2017
You were waiting for it, weren’t you? Sony announces the PlayStation4 Pro and the PlayStation4 Slim alongside PlayStation Virtual Reality (VR) headset. The new PS4 Pro is an improved version of the PS4, which supports 4K resolution and comes with HDR capability. Most importantly, it is faster in terms of responsiveness. Thanks to the powerful hardware present onboard. For enhanced performance, Sony has updated some of the top games like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, The Last of Us Remastered and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to name a few.
The PS4 Slim is a sleeker version of the PS4 console. Unlike the previous version that had a semi-glossy finish, this one sports an all matte trim. Adding up to the glamour are the slight curvy edges. On the downside, the new console will not feature a SPDIF port, which may seem to be a turnoff for many.
Talking about the price, the PS4 Pro will cost you Rs. 38,990 and is expected to hit shelves by mid-February alongside PS4 Slim which is priced at Rs. 27,990 for 500GB and Rs. 32,990 for the ITB variant. As an additional treat, Sony has also announced the PlayStation VR (PS VR), which will hit stores by March. Available at a price of Rs. 41,990, The PS VR will include a headset, a PS4 camera and a demo disc. However, in case you wish to buy the bundle excluding the camera, you spend Rs. 37,990.
The PS VR is backwards compatible, which means it will also be supported by the 1st generation PlayStation 4 consoles. What’s more interesting is the fact that the Netflix app on PS4 Pro is all set to get an update during the launch. The update will enable users to stream 4K content like Narcos Season 2 and Luke Cage.
The Sony PS4 Pro was officially unveiled last year in September and was launched in November with a price tag of approximately Rs. 27,000. No doubt, gaming enthusiast in India had to wait for quite a while now. But, the wait is finally over, and you definitely have a good reason to rejoice.
Although the duo will be launched somewhere in the mid-February, a few reports online do suggest a specific date. However, it won’t be wise to consider these as authentic, as no concrete release date has yet been announced, primarily due to logistics issues which may affect the timely delivery of the products across stores in India. Some reports also state that the non-reception of the BIS certification is responsible for the apparent delay.
The new consoles may not be here yet, but the bookings have already started. So, in case you wish to upgrade to one of the brand new gizmos, go ahead before they all go off the shelves. Also, don’t forget to look out for discount coupons while making the purchase. Who knows? You may end up with a discount, good enough to save you a fortune.
