
Sony Launched Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III Smartphone Lineup on Apr 14
The Japan-based tech firm Sony is known for its cutting-edge technology and now, the brand has launched three smartphones, Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III. Among the three, Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 are the ones that draw their power from Qualcomm’s high-end SD 888 chipset. The Xperia 10 III is the one that will be priced in the budget-segment and will also sport 5G capabilities.
With a high-end spec sheet, Xperia 1 III will be the debut smartphone to sport a 4K OLED panel that will offer a 120Hz refresh rate. On the smartphones that are available in the market right now, users will get a fixed-focus telephoto sensor, however, Sony has changed the game. The new lineup will offer lenses the ability to move within the periscope frame. This will give users the ability to set the focus between 70mm to 10mm length. This feature will be available only on Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III, giving users the optical zoom of up to 2.9x and 4.4x.

The hardware and software specifications on both the Sony flagships are quite similar. The display panel on Sony Xperia 1 III is a 4K CinemaWide 6.5” OLED with high refresh rate of 120Hz. On the flip side, Xperia 5 III sports a tad smaller 6.1” HDR OLED panel. This panel will produce a resolution of Full HD+. The aspect ratio on both the smartphones is 21:9 with full support of 240Hz motion processing technology.
Users will also get better HDR processing, all thanks to X1 Bravia TV engine. At their core, both the smartphones sport Snapdragon 888 SoC coupled with up to 12 gigs of high-speed LPDDR5 RAM. Sony is offering an onboard storage of 512GB along with a dedicated microSD card slot. The brand has also kept gamers in mind and is offering a good quality stereo speaker. The smartphones will also support screen recording at 120fps at 1080p.
Sony has also equipped the smartphone with Heat Suppression Technology that is focused to benefit gamers where they will get to play by keeping the cord connected. This technology will let the power bypass without charging the battery first.
Coming to the opticals, Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III feature a front camera of 8MP. There is a slight difference in the primary camera module of both the models. The elder variant Xperia 1 III will offer a high-end ToF sensor that is significantly helpful in capturing depth. The primary camera on both the devices is 12MP sensor with optical image stabilization, a same size ultra-wide sensor along with 12MP telescope sensor.
The telescope camera on these Sony smartphones offer a variable focal length that can be adjusted between 70mm to 105mm. To enhance the overall camera experience, Sony is offering Zeiss lenses paired with BIONZ X chipset to capture better low-light images. The camera also comes with real time Eye AutoFocus, 120fps 4K slow-mo video, and Optical SteadyShot.
Sony is also offering a quick charge of 30W where both the flagship variants will feature a battery capacity of 4,500 mAh. Among the two, the elder brother Xperia 1 III will also come with wireless charging support. Sony Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III will also come with IP68 certification, making them dust and water-resistant. Coming to the protection, Xperia 5 III will come in a Gorilla Glass 6 sandwich design, whereas Xperia 1 III will sport Gorilla Glass Victus.
Sony Xperia 10 III: Key specs & features
The most affordable of the three, Xperia 10 III will come with a 6” OLED panel that will produce a resolution of Full HD+. The smartphone will also come with HDR10 support and the aspect ratio will be 21:9. However, users will get to see cost cutting in terms of screen refresh rate, i.e., 60 Hz. The smartphone will come in Gorilla Glass 6 sandwich design with IP65/68 certifications.
At its core, Xperia 10 III will sport Snapdragon 690 chipset paired with 6 gigs of LPDDR4x memory. The device will come with 128GB of UFS 2.1 onboard storage. Equipped with 4,500 mAh battery, Sony is offering 18W fast charging. Coming to the camera, the budget offering from Sony will sport an f/1.8 12MP primary sensor paired up with an 8MP telephoto camera that will offer 10x hybrid zoom. There will also be an ultra-wide lens of 8MP with an FOV of 120-degree.
The front will house an 8-megapixel selfie camera. All the three variants from Sony will boot on Android 11 where users will get a fingerprint scanner on the side. There will also be a 3.5mm audio jack present on the whole lineup.

There is no information available on the pricing and availability scene of the new lineup. Starting with the top-of-the-line, Sony Xperia 1 III will come in Frosted Gray, Frosted Purple, and Frosted Black options. The Xperia 5 III will be available in the shades of Pink, Green, and Black. Sony Xperia 10 III will also have multiple color options such as pink, black, white, and blue.
