Saregama has launched Carvaan 2.0, the latest version of its popular range of speakers with preloaded music. The Saregama Carvaan 2.0 is priced at Rs. 7,990. It is available in two colour options namely Classic Black and Emerald Green. In addition, the company is also launching a Gold variant of the Carvaan 2.0 which will again be available in two colour options namely Champagne Gold and Rose Gold.

The USP feature of Saregama Carvaan 2.0 is its library of over 5,000 preloaded audio tracks. These tracks comprise Indian music classics and devotional songs aimed at the older audience. The audio products of Saregama are targeted at Indian music enthusiasts who are over the age of 35. These people also love to listen to the catalogue of classic Bollywood and regional tracks.

In addition to its exhaustive collection of audio tracks, an interesting feature of the new Carvaan is the Wi-Fi connectivity. This allows the device to connect and access over 150 audio stations which are being pushed as podcasts and curated by Saregama itself.

The content on these stations comprise a host of programs including music, talk shows, devotional content, children’s content, and more. The stations are regularly updated, and the company claims that it adds around 6-60 minutes of new content to each station every single day. As per Saregama, the number of stations to which the device will have access to is set to increase to 1,000 in the coming months.

The Carvaan range of speakers – the Saregama Carvaan and Carvaan Gold will offer a variety of content and connectivity options. However, the design and UI of the Carvaan remains focused on simplicity. This helps the older audience (its target audience) to enjoy new-age digital quality music on a device which retains a yesteryears’ charm.

The Saregama Carvaan 2.0 comes with a rechargeable battery. The device can run for up to 5-6 hours on a single charge along with external connectivity through Bluetooth, USB, Aux In, and FM/AM radio. The Wi-Fi audio stations are maintained by Saregama itself and can currently be accessed for free with the speaker.

The design and layout of the Carvaan 2.0 remains largely the same as its previous versions. The newest version comes with a fourth function button which enables users to access internet-based content.

Saregama has also launched the Carvaan 2.0 Gold which comes with Harman Kardon-certified speakers, and Wi-Fi connectivity for Rs. 15,990. Connecting to the Internet has also been made seamless with the Saregama app which is available for iOS and Android. The Carvaan 2.0, once connected, can receive Wi-Fi credentials and can enable access through the user’s smartphone. It automatically connects and works smoothly when the Wi-Fi mode is activated. In addition to the internet content, users can access the pre-loaded content at any time and from anywhere.

Carvaan has been popular as per some interesting insights shared by Saregama about the product. The company has seen that offline sales has outnumbered online sales. Saregama has achieved this through a dealer network which is spread across the country. Due to this network, the Carvaan range of audio devices is available in over 400 cities across India. Since the older users are a key target, the product has largely relied on word-of-mouth publicity to enhance its reach


When asked if Saregama was working on a hardware product for the younger audiences, its MD Vikram Mehra, Managing Director of Saregama India said that the company wasn’t working on those lines and its focus was clearly on providing a product for its older audiences.

The Saregama Carvaan 2.0 and Carvaan 2.0 Gold can be bought from and will eventually be made available across major online and offline stores in the country. The company has also launched the Rs. 3,990 Saregama Carvaan Go recently. It brings portability and easy on-the-go use for the users.
