The South Korean tech giant Samsung has finally lifted the veil from its premium lineup of Galaxy S series, globally. In an online-only event, the brand has revealed three new devices, Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra. The track record of the brand states the launch of the S-series in February, however, Samsung decided to do it one month sooner this year.

Samsung has done a major design overhaul on the rear in the S-series this year. The videos and pictures of the official render showcase the rear camera module in a separate frame that is fused into the smartphone’s body, giving it a more refined appeal. The specifications and the features offered by the brand are prime, just like they were in the last year’s Galaxy S20 lineup. A major change is also seen in Galaxy S21 Ultra which also comes with S-pen support that was yet limited to the brand’s top-of-the-line Galaxy Note series.

Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21+: Key specs & features

Both the smartphones from Samsung comes with 5G connectivity where the base model Galaxy S21 sports a screen size of 6.2” whereas the Galaxy S21+ comes with a 6.7” screen. The panel used by the brand here is Dynamic AMOLED 2x that goes up to a brightness level of 1300 nits. Both the devices come with HDR10+ and a variable refresh rate that fluctuates between 48Hz to 120Hz. The aspect ratio is 20:9. Unlike last year’s curved edges on the Galaxy S20 lineup, after much criticism, Samsung has finally decided to go with a more practical flat-edged display. The screen resolution has also seen a downgrade this year, Galaxy S21 and S21+ sport Full HD+ resolution. Last year’s S20 lineup was equipped with Quad HD+ panels.

Following the track record, Samsung is offering the Exynos version of its S21 lineup in markets such as India and Europe. The cutting edge Snapdragon 888 SoC is offered in markets like the USA and Canada along with the brand’s home market. On the storage and memory front, Samsung’s S21 and S21+ sport 8 gigs of LPDDDR5 memory paired with 128/256GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage. There will be no option for storage expansion.

The base model Galaxy S21 5G, is backed up by a 4,000 mAh battery while its elder brother Galaxy S21+ 5G houses a 4,800 mAh battery. With the support of up to 15W wireless and reverse wireless charging, both devices come with wired charging support of up to 25W.

Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21+ are identical in terms of the optical setup. The punch-hole camera houses a 10-megapixel f/2.2 lens with dual-pixel AF. The rear camera system is a quad-camera module where the primary sensor is a 12-megapixel lens with OIS and dual-pixel AF. The main camera is paired with a same-sized 120° ultra-wide lens along with a 64-megapixel OIS-equipped telephoto lens that offers 3x optical zoom. With 30x Space Zoom, the S21 duo can record high-quality videos at 8K 30FPS.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G: Key specs & features

The display panel on the Galaxy S21 Ultra is the same as its younger brothers, with only a tad bigger in size at 6.8”. However, it has retained the last year’s curved edges. The Infinity-O display packs QHD+ resolution with a pixel density of 551ppi. The aspect ratio on Galaxy S21 Ultra is 20:9 with a resolution of 1440*3200 pixels. The screen comes with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz and goes lowest to 10 Hz.

Same as the Galaxy S21 and S21+, the premium Galaxy S21 Ultra features Qualcomm SD 888 and Exynos 2100 based on the markets that are mentioned above. The SoC is paired with 12/16GB LPDDR5 RAM and three storage options, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of UFS 3.1 type. On this Ultra model, Samsung is also offering a dedicated memory card slot for storage expansion. The whole package is backed up by a huge 5,000 mAh battery with fast charging support up to 45W. The wireless and reverse wireless charging are capped at 15W on this premium model, as well.

Coming to the optics, Galaxy S21 Ultra sports a punch-hole selfie camera of a 40-megapixel sensor with support for dual-pixel AF. The rear quad-camera frame houses a primary lens of 108-megapixel with OIS and dual-pixel AF. It will be paired with a smaller 12-megapixel 120° ultra-wide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and OIS. There is also another 10-megapixel telephoto sensor that supports 10x optical zoom with OIS. All the cameras are equipped with dual-pixel AF. Coming to the video, the Galaxy S21 Ultra can shoot up to 8K 30fps. The camera module also houses a laser AF system that offers better Space Zoom up to 100x.

The base model Samsung Galaxy S21 comes in a plastic rear panel whereas both the elder brothers sport glass sandwich design. The smartphones are also water and dust resistant with certified IP68 ratings. The screen is given the protection of the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 7 for the utmost protection. The latest addition to the Samsung lineup will boot on Android 11 with OneTouch UI 3.0 on the top. Other connectivity features are dual-SIM with e-SIM support, 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, in-display FP scanner, DeX desktop, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C. Samsung is also offering stereo speaker setup and Samsung Knox for secured online presence.

Samsung Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21+ Ultra: Pricing and availability

Samsung Galaxy S21’s 128GB and 256GB variants will be available at a retail price of ₹69,999 and ₹73,999, respectively. The color options are Phantom White, Phantom Pink, Phantom Gray, and Phantom Purple. Galaxy S21+ will come in three color options, Phantom Purple, Phantom Silver, and Phantom Black. It will be sold at ₹81,999 and ₹85,999 for 128GB and 256GB variants, respectively.

Coming to the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the variants with 12GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB combinations will be available at ₹1,05,999 and ₹1,16,999, respectively. This premium model will be available in Phantom Silver and Phantom Black color options. There will be no earphones and power adapter come included in the Galaxy S21 retail units.

The smartphones will be available for pre-orders from Jan 15, midnight. The pre-order buyers will avail of a Samsung shop voucher of ₹10,000 and a Galaxy SmartTag. The voucher can also be redeemed to get a Galaxy Watch 2, or a combo pack containing a travel adapter and Galaxy Buds+. The pre-order units will also be available at a flat cashback from HDFC Bank of ₹5,000, ₹7,000, and ₹10,000 for the three smartphones in order, i.e., Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra. There is also a ₹5,000 Samsung Upgrade plan offered to the pre-order buyers as a bonus offer.

The smartphones will start to reach the customers from Jan 25 and the open sale will commence on Jan 29 through all the major outlets including Samsung Store, Croma, Amazon, Flipkart, and Reliance Digital.
