samsung mobileSamsung Galaxy S5 is undoubtedly the most anticipated smartphone of the year 2014. There have been a lot of rumours regarding its launch and the latest one is- the S5 will be launched by mid of March at a special event. The event is expected to be held by Samsung in London. A top Samsung executive had quoted during last week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that the most awaited device might be launched by March-April.

Earlier there were rumours that the South Korean giant will unveil the S5 at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 scheduled for February at Barcelona (Spain).

Similar to iPhone 5C, Galaxy S5 is expected to be available in two variants- A metal body premium variant with flexible OLED and the usual plastic body (as found in other Galaxy handsets) budget variant.

The S5 might come with IRIS screening- a technology that can unlock the phone with eye scanning. Using the technology, a high-contrast image of a person’s iris is taken and translated into a code. Next time when the eye is scanned, it is matched against the code and authentication is provided based on the same.

The rumoured features of Galaxy S5 are:

  • 5-inch full HD flexible OLED display with 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution
  • Exynos octa core processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16 MP ISOCELL rear camera
  • 4 MP front camera
  • 4000mAh battery capacity
  • Android 4.4 Kitkat OS

It is also rumoured that Samsung will unveil second-generation Galaxy Gear along with the S5. The Galaxy Gear 2 is expected to overcome the major drawback of its predecessor and will be comparatively 15-20% thinner.

Well, the speculations will keep coming, but the truth will be revealed only when Samsung officially announces the device.
