Samsung Galaxy S10 vs Galaxy S10+ vs Galaxy S10eSamsung kick started the year 2019 on a good note with the launch of its new Galaxy M series that consists of Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 smartphones which are targeted at budget segment. And now the company has launched its most awaited flagship series i.e. Galaxy S10. The new lineup was launched at Samsung‘s Unveiled event held yesterday in San Francisco, ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 and it includes- Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e. The South Korean tech giant also launched Galaxy S10 5G and Galaxy Fold alongside the flagship series. The three flagship devices (Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy S10e) share a few common specifications, such as the processor, Dynamic AMOLED displays, Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 etc., but there are some differences as well. In terms of design, the Galaxy S10 series offers a slight difference in design compared to last year’s flagships. The bezels around the display are thinner than ever except for Galaxy S10e which features visible bezels across all sides. The Galaxy S10 and S10e get a single, circular cutout on the top right corner for the selfie camera, whereas the Galaxy S10+ gets a bigger pill-shaped cutout as it hosts a dual selfie camera instead of single. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ comes with Samsung’s trademark curved displays, while the Galaxy S10e gets a flat screen. All three phones feature rear panel made up of glass which provides wireless charging support. All three phones are IP68 certified for resistance against dust and water. In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy S10 measures 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8 mm, and weighs about 157 grams. The Galaxy S10+ has dimensions of 157.6 x 74.1 x 7.8 mm, and weight of 175 grams, while the Galaxy S10e measures 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9 mm (which is 1 mm thicker than the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+) and weighs 150 grams. So, the Galaxy S10e is the lightest of the three devices.

The display panels are the key upgrades to the new Galaxy S10 series and are considered to be one of the highlights of the devices. All three phones sport a Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O displays which are said to be the first HDR10+ certified displays with a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. The Galaxy S10 features a 6.1-inch Curved Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O Display with QHD+ resolution of 3040×1440 pixels, a 19:9 aspect ratio and a 550ppi pixel density. The Galaxy S10+ comes with a 6.4-inch QHD+ (3040×1440 pixels) display but features a lower 522ppi pixel density. The Galaxy S10e bears a smaller 5.8-inch full-HD+ Flat Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display with 2280×1440 pixel screen resolution and 438ppi pixel density. So, the Galaxy S10 Plus has a bigger display, while the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10e are good options for those who do not prefer a large screen. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ feature an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint readers, while the Galaxy S10e has a fingerprint sensor that is embedded inside its side-mounted power button. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensing technology is used by Samsung for the first time and its supposedly faster than typical in-display fingerprint sensors.

All three smartphones are powered by either Exynos 9820 chipset or Snapdragon 855 chipset, depending on the region. Indian market will get Exynos 9820 chipset, while the markets like China and the US will get Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset. The difference will be in terms of memory. The Galaxy S10 gets an 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM, while the more premium Galaxy S10+ gets 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The cheapest of the three Galaxy S10e gets 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM on board. In terms of storage, the Galaxy S10 gets two variants- 128GB or 512GB, along with a microSD card slot for expansion up to 512GB. The Galaxy S10+ gets an additional 1TB storage variant as well with a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 512GB. The Galaxy S10e gets 128GB or 256GB of onboard storage options. The storage can be expanded further up to 512GB via microSD card. Please note that some markets will get hybrid dual-SIM card slots.

In terms of software, all three smartphones run Google’s latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system out of the box with Samsung’s own One UI on top. The UI offers a cleaner and minimalistic interface and also brings a system-wide dark mode to further enhance the user’s experience.

The Galaxy S10 features a 3400mAh capacity battery while the Galaxy S10e packs a 3100mAh capacity battery. The Galaxy S10+ gets a bigger 4100mAh capacity battery underneath to keep things ticking. All three phones support 18W fast wired charging and 15W fast wireless charging. In addition, the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ also offer 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The same is missing in Galaxy S10e though.

The new Galaxy S10 series gets an impressive camera set up as well. The Galaxy S10 sports a horizontally stacked triple camera set up on the back which comprises of a primary 12-megapixel wide-angle camera coupled with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.5 to f/2.4 + a secondary 12-megapixel camera with autofocus and an f/2.4 aperture + a third 16-megapixel camera with fixed focus and an f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera also offers up to 10x digital zoom. For selfies, there’s a single 10-megapixel sensor coupled with 2PD autofocus, an f/1.9 aperture, and 80-degree lens. The Galaxy S10+ gets the same rear camera set up as that of Galaxy S10 but it gets a dual front camera set up instead of single. The selfie camera set up consists of 10MP primary sensor with f/1.9 aperture + an 8MP secondary depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture and support for Live Focus. The Galaxy S10e also gets a dual camera set up on the back with a combination of 12MP Dual Aperture and 16MP ultra wide-angle camera, but it loses out on the 12MP telephoto camera. For selfies, there’s a 10MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture, which is similar to the Galaxy S10.

Samsung has just announced the pricing for three devices in India. The Galaxy S10 gets a starting price tag of Rs. 66,900 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage variant, while the 8GB RAM + 512GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 84,900. The 128GB storage variant will be available in three colour options- Prism Black, Prism Blue, and Prism White, while the 512GB variant will only be available in a Prism White colour option.

The Galaxy S10e gets only one variant in India i.e. 6GB RAM + 128GB storage which is priced at Rs. 55,900. It will be available in two colour options- Prism Black and Prism White.

The most premium Galaxy S10+ starting price in India is set at Rs. 73,900 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage variant. The mid variant i.e. 8GB RAM + 512GB inbuilt storage is priced at Rs. 91,900, while the top variant i.e. 12GB RAM + 1TB storage variant gets a price tag of Rs. 1,17,900! The 512GB and 1TB variants will be available in two colour options- Ceramic Black and Ceramic White, whereas the base 128GB variant will be available in Prism Black, Prism Blue, and Prism White colour options. The pre-bookings have already started at the time of writing this article.
