The winter wind might still be a few weeks away, but we do have something cool to bring the temperatures down. Korean brand, Samsung, launched two new Smartphones on November 3, aimed to tap into the budget smartphone market.
Available exclusively on e-commerce website Flipkart since Tuesday midnight, the two Samsung smartphones can be bought in Gold and Black colour variants. Understanding the needs of the smartphone user, Samsung has popped the On 5 and On 7 with the latest Android iteration, Lollipop. To supplement this amazing OS, these phones will be 4G enabled so that the user does not spend eternity waiting for online videos to buffer, or download. Both the smartphones support dual SIM, rendering the need for two separate phones unnecessary.
Let’s discuss the specs of the Samsung Galaxy On5 first… The phone sports a 5” screen with a support for up to 720x1280p display resolution. Imagine the clarity you get when you view pictures taken from the 8 megapixel primary camera with autofocus!
Those with selfie-clicking hands will love the 5 megapixel front camera. Video calling too, will be made easy and fun with the front camera. If you are someone who likes to digitally capture every moment, then you will be pleased to know that these two Smartphones have a quick launch feature that switches on the camera in 2 seconds with a simple double tap on the home screen button. Not only this! The user can also take a selfie by triggering the camera with a palm gesture!
Multitaskers will be happy with the 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 SoC processor which is accompanied by 1.5 GB of RAM for smooth app switching and fast processing. Although the On 5 comes with only 8 GB of internal storage capacity, it supports an expandable storage of up to a massive 128 GB using the microSD card slot. The 2600mAh battery provides long lasting usage.
There are a couple of features that are unique to the On5 and On7. They come loaded with Mix Radio, a store with over 30 million songs which you can listen to offline! Lastly, something that will interest the internet loving blood in you is the ‘Ultra Data Saving’ mode that allows the phone to compress data streaming by as much as 50%!
Coming to the Samsung Galaxy On7, it sports a 5.5” HD screen with a display resolution of 720x1280p. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC processor and comes with 1.5 GB of RAM for fluid multitasking. It sports a 13 megapixel back, and 5 megapixel front camera. Like the On 5, this Smartphone too comes with only 8 GB of internal memory capacity, expandable by another 128 GB.
According to the Director of product marketing for Samsung India, Manu Sharma, the two new smartphones have been targeted at the internet hungry youth of today who want to stay connected 24×7.
Samsung has been quick to understand the users’ sentiments when it comes to budget smartphones; they want quality brands producing quality smartphones but without the exclusive price tag. With the launch of the On5 and On7, half of Samsung’s portfolio now comprises of smartphones below 15k. In competition with Apple, Sony, HTC, Micromax in the Indian market, Samsung still holds its lead with 40% shares in the field. Now that’s something commendable, isn’t it?
Coming to the pricing, the On 5 and On 7 are priced at Rs. 8,990 and Rs. 10,990, respectively. So if you were waiting for Diwali to get the celebrations started, you may have second thoughts and begin them earlier this year by indulging in some Samsung smartphone buying!
