Samsung Galaxy M40After being subjected to several teasers and rumours, Samsung has finally launched its Galaxy M40 smartphone in India. The new addition to the Galaxy M series features full-HD+ Infinity-O Display, octa-core Snapdragon 675 SoC, 6GB of RAM and triple rear camera set up. The Galaxy M40 is also the first in its segment to feature a ‘screen sound technology that enables the display panel to produce audio vibrations eliminating the need of a dedicated earpiece.

The Galaxy M40 is priced in India at Rs. 19,990 for the lone 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage variant. The handset will go on sale starting 12pm IST on June 18 via eCommerce giant Amazon.in and Samsung Online Shop. There will be two gradient colour options available for the interested buyers- Midnight Blue and Seawater Blue.

Samsung Galaxy M40 Features and Specs

The Galaxy M40 sports a 6.3-inch FHD+ Infinity-O LCD display with 2340×1080 pixel screen resolution and 91 per cent screen to body ratio. The display gets a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass on top for protection against dust and scratches. The display also gets the company’s screen sound technology that produces audio vibrations on the handset. Under the hood, there’s an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC that powers the device along with Adreno 612 GPU and 6GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage capacity of the device is 128GB which is further expandable up to 512GB via microSD card. In terms of software, the phone runs Google’s latest Android 9 Pie OS with One UI on top. There’s a 3,500mAh capacity battery underneath to keep things ticking that works with a built-in 15W fast charging technology.

For the camera buffs, there’s a triple camera setup on the back that consists of a 32-megapixel primary sensor with an AI scene optimiser and f/1.7 lens + a 5-megapixel secondary depth sensor + an 8-megapixel tertiary sensor with an ultra-wide-angle lens. The front hosts a 16MP sensor for taking selfies and making video calls.

In terms of dimensions, the Galaxy M40 has 7.9mm of thickness and its weight is 168 grams. Connectivity features included in the device are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/ A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port. For security purpose, there’s a rear mounted fingerprint sensor.

Priced under 20k, the Samsung Galaxy M40 is expected to provide stiff competition to the likes of Xiaomi and Realme that rule the market with aggressively priced phones with decent set of specs. Considering the price and specs, the Galaxy M40 is expected to compete against the likes of Redmi Note 7 Pro, Realme 3 and Vivo V15. It will be interesting to see how well the Samsung is able to combat the competition.
