Samsung Galaxy A8s Will Be World’s First Smartphone with Display Hole: Launch set for December 10

by December 4, 2018

Yesterday we reported that Huawei could become world’s first handset maker to launch a phone with an in-display hole for the selfie camera, dubbed as Nova 4. And now South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced the launch date of its Galaxy A8s smartphone which will also feature an in-display hole for the selfie sensor. The launch date of Huawei Nova 4 is set as 17th December, while the launch date of Galaxy A8s is set a full weak earlier i.e. 10th December, which will make it world’s first smartphone to sport a display hole. Of course, the announcement cannot be coincidental as both the companies were in the race to launch the first smartphone hole in display since November and it appears that Samsung was just waiting for Huawei to announce the launch date.

Samsung Galaxy A8s to be launched on December 10

The Galaxy A8s was first teased a few months ago at the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy A9s and Galaxy A6s in China and recently it was certified at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) hinting that the device will soon be launched the US. Now the launch poster of the device is posted today on Weibo (Chinese social networking site) by a Chinese vendor as well as by official Weibo account of Samsung mobile which reveals the launch date and showcases a handset with a selfie camera punched onto the display at the top-left corner. Samsung calls it an Infinity-O display, which will replace the notch with a hole within the display to host the selfie camera and other sensors. This Infinity-O display will also be featured in other upcoming Samsung devices like Galaxy S10 which was leaked in renders recently.

Going by the rumours and reports, the Galaxy A8s is expected to sport a 6.39-inch AMOLED screen with full-HD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 710 SoC along with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable up to 512GB). The device could be fueled by a 3,400mAh battery with support for fast charging and run Android 9 Pie operating system out of the box with Samsung’s latest OneUI on top. The rear will host a triple rear camera system consisting of a 25MP + 5MP + 10MP sensors, while the front will host a 24MP selfie sensor placed in a display hole. The phone will have a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Speculated dimensions of the device are 159.11 x 74.88 x 7.38 mm.

The 2018 was all about notched displays and the 2019 could well be the year of Display Hole aka Infinity-O display in Samsung’s terms. Stay tuned to CompareRaja for more updates on the upcoming Galaxy A8s and Huawei Nova 4.
