Samsung Galaxy A8 StarSouth Korean tech giant Samsung has silently launched a new smartphone in Philippines dubbed as Galaxy A8 Star. Notably, the Galaxy A8 Star is actually the Galaxy A9 Star that was launched in China last week, but company decided to name it Galaxy A8 Star in Philippines for unknown reasons. The A9 Star went on sale in China a few days ago and will go on sale in the Philippines on June 14. The phone will carry price tag of around CNY 2,999 (roughly 24,881 PHP and 470 USD).

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy A8 Star has identical specifications as that of Galaxy A9 Star. It sports a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 2160×1080 pixel resolution and 80.6% screen-to-body ratio. Under the hood, the device is powered by a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 512 GPU and 4GB of RAM. The inbuilt storage capacity of the phone is 64GB which can be extended up to 4TB using a microSD card. The dual-SIM phone runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box and is backed by a 3,700mAh battery.

In the camera department, on the rear you have a vertically stacked dual camera setup comprising of a 16MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture and a 24MP sensor with f/1.7 aperture. The rear camera features PDFA, HDR and LED Flash support. The front hosts a 24MP selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture and it supports facial recognition technology to unlock the device.

The Galaxy A8 Star is likely to arrive in South Korea and South East Asia markets within a few weeks’ time.
