How many times have we unsuccessfully tried to capture a panorama shot? Tried to capture everyone in a single frame? Tried to take a really cool selfie with all our friends in it? Well, anyone with a camera or a smartphone has at least once, done all of the above. Taking such shots can be difficult…BUT NO MORE! Ricoh India has announced the launch of its Theta S 360° for its Indian consumers at a price of Rs. 39,995. (Thank God, it’s not a complete Rs.40000, or else who would’ve bought it?!)
No bigger than your average air AC remote control, the Theta S is highly portable. You can carry this gadget around and simply whip it out whenever a photo-op arises! Unlike most other cameras that have a shiny, smooth coating that threatens to slip out of your hand, the Theta S comes with a rubberized coating for a firm grip. The camera has a 12MP fish eye lens on either side of the body which gives you a 360° picture or video. What’s more, you can capture a 25 minute long spherical HD video at 30fps with the Theta S too! Thanks to the f/2.0 aperture on the lens, you can capture amazing pictures even in low light settings.
On the right side of the Theta S you can find the ‘Power’ key, the Wi-Fi button, and the toggle key for Photo and Video shooting. The front side of the camera has the shutter button along with LEDs to display the mode you’re shooting on. The speaker and microphone find a place at the top of the camera. The bottom of the camera incorporates a tripod mount, a Micro-USB, and a Mini-HDMI port. One of the shortcomings of the Theta S is its low storage capacity of 8GB, out of which only 4 GB is user available, and no provision for expandable storage.
One of the best features of the Theta S is the HD Live streaming of videos and pictures that it allows in real time when connected with a USB. Compatible with popular social media platforms, you can now show the world what made you happy, who you’re hanging out with, via Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr! Not only this, you can also post your Theta S captured pics and videos to Google Maps, Google+ and the YouTube 360° channel.
Using the Live View feature of the RICOH THETA S basic app, you can use your smartphone as a viewfinder to click images if you don’t wish to be in the shot. The Application Program Interface (API) for the Theta S is open for developers, enabling third party apps to use its features. This opens the door for the Theta S to be used in various gaming platforms too, if developed and upgraded right.
The Theta S 360° is available for pre-order from the online store for a price of Rs. 7,199, with shipping expected in December. So, what are you waiting for? Pre-order your Theta S right away, and go star gazing or picnicking with your loved ones, and build 360° memories of a lifetime!
Note: Don’t mistake the pre-order price to be the final price. Before placing an order check the price break in the ‘view details’ page.
