Since Samsung is out to capture a sizeable market share and edge over its competitors, it is relying heavily on Tizen OS, an open source operating system based on Linux kernel and WebKit runtime.  Slated to be launched as the year ends, Tizen is likely to take up Android, FireFox and Ubuntu OS along with Apple’s iOS which are current hot favorites. By offering an open source OS, the users can alter their device’s software.

Replacement for Android Tizen OSTizen OS is devised under the helm of the Linux Foundation under the supervision of the Technical Steering Group (Samsung and Intel), the OS is a combination of Samsung’s LiMo/SLP and MeeGo. Though yet to be publicly launched, smart phones equipped with Tizen will offer enhanced features such as location based services, advanced multimedia features over and above the regular offerings today’s smart devices. Samsung wishes to own and play with its own OS rather than rely on a third party source for the same especially its competitor.  In all, Tizen is all set to provide a viable alternative to Android.

With further boost given to apps creation on their Tizen platform, the developers are facing great challenges in order to dish out the best ones ever created. In fact, big amount prizes have been announced for the best game app as well as the non gaming app.

Another interesting development is the boost given to the use of HTML5, which provides better browsing experience, especially its ability to play music and embedded videos without further add-ons and saving data offline.

Tizen’s user interface is likely to be similar to that of the existing Smartphone OS interface but at the same time you can expect variations too. These variations could include drop down menus, different looking boxes for apps or even something totally different.  In fact, the interface is yet at a development stage. For operating the Smartphone, you could be required to swipe, tag, tap on the screen while a long press would imply a selection which could be quite acceptable.

Giving a futuristic look to the entire development of Tizen OS is the vision to develop it for televisions, tablets, notebooks and other smart devices for making Samsung an arch rival to existing smart device manufacturers.
