Redmi Note 6 Pro vs Xiaomi Mi A2 vs Realme 2 Pro: Design and Display

The Redmi Note 6 Pro sports an all metal design just like its predecessor. The company has made some tweaks to the design but largely it is the same. It comes with a slightly of refreshed design along with notched display. It features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. It features a 2.5D curved glass and layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protection on top.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 also features a metal body and comes with a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display with 1080 x 2160 pixels screen resolution, an 18:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D curved glass and Gorilla Glass 5 layer of protection. Notably, there is no notch at the top of the display.

While the Realme 2 Pro sports with a 6.3-inch FHD+ display with 1080 x 2340 pixel screen resolution, a 19:5:9 aspect ratio and 409 ppi pixel density. It features a water drop shaped notch at the top of the display which houses the selfie camera. It is a better-looking phone as compared to the other two (thanks to the water drop shaped notch) but the plastic build quality is not that great.

Overall, we feel the Redmi Note 6 Pro has a slight advantage in terms of design and display as compared to the other two phones.

In terms of dimensions, the Redmi Note 6 Pro measures 157.91 x 76.38 x 8.26 mm and weighs about 182 grams. Dimensions of the Xiaomi Mi A2 are 158.7 x 75.4 x 7.3 mm and its weight is 165 grams, while the Realme 2 Pro has dimension of 156.7 x 74 x 8.5 mm and weight of 174 grams. So, the Mi A2 is the lightest and the slimmest of the three handsets.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor along with 4GB RAM or 6GB of RAM and Adreno 509 GPU which is capable of running daily tasks very easily. The internal storage capacity of the device is 64GB which can be expanded further up to 256GB using a microSD card.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 draws power from an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC, paired with an Adreno 512 GPU. In terms of memory, there are two options available for the interested buyers- 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage.

 

Under the hood, the Realme 2 Pro is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 AIE processor along with Adreno 512 GPU and 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM options. The onboard storage options are 64GB and 128GB with an option to expand the same up to 256GB by means of a microSD card.

In terms of processor, the Realme 2 Pro features a better SoC i.e. Snapdragon 660 AIE and thus has an edge in terms of performance over the other two devices

In terms of software, the Redmo Note 6 Pro runs MIUI 10 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo, while the Xiaomi Mi A2 runs an optimised stock version of Android 8.1 Oreo, certified by Google’s Android One programme. The dual-SIM Realme 2 Pro is shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo operating system based on ColorOS 5.2 custom software out of the box.

In terms of battery, the Note 6 Pro is backed by an impressive 4,000mAh battery that supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The Mi A2 packs a 3,010mAh battery under the hood, and features Quick Charge 4 fast charging support. The Realme 2 Pro is fueled by a 3,500mAh battery. So, the Note 6 Pro is the winner in this department.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro is the first Xiaomi phone to come with four camera set up in total. The rear hosts a vertically stacked dual rear camera which comprises of 12-megapixel primary sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus and f/1.9 aperture + a secondary 5-megapixel sensor for depth sensing. The rear camera is touted to have Dual Pixel Autofocus as well as features such as AI scene detection, AI Portrait 2.0, EIS, Light Trails, and Studio Lighting. The front also hosts a dual camera set up for selfies which consists of a 20-megapixel primary sensor + a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for portrait selfies.

The Mi A2 sports a dual camera set up on the back which includes a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 sensor with f/1.75 aperture and 1.25-micron pixels + a 20-megapixel secondary Sony IMX376 sensor with f/1.75 aperture. The rear camera setup features dual-tone LED flash and PDAF. For selfies, the front hosts a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 camera with f/1.75 aperture, fixed focal length, and a soft-LED flash.

The Realme 2 Pro sports a 16-megapixel sensor on both front and rear cameras with f/1.7 aperture, 1/2.8-inch Sony IMX398 sensor, and a 1.12-micron pixel size. The rear also has a secondary sensor of 2-megapixel. The front camera has f/2.0 aperture and features AI Beauty 2.0 for better selfies.

It needs to be noted that the camera performance is not just about megapixels and you’ll need to refer more user reviews to get a better idea of the camera output. In our opinion, the Mi A2 features the best front as well as rear camera set up out of the three phones

The Redmi Note 6 Pro base variant i.e. 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage is priced at Rs. 13,999, while the top variant i.e. 6GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage is priced at Rs. 15,999.  As an introductory offer, Xiaomi had partnered with HDFC Bank to offer its customer a discount of Rs. 500. The 2nd sale of Redmi Note 6 Pro will be held day after tomorrow i.e. 28 November via Flipkart, Mi.com and also on Xiaomi’s offline store – Mi Home.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 64GB variant with 4GB RAM is priced in India at Rs. 16,999 while the 128GB variant with 6GB is priced at Rs. 18,999.

The Realme 2 Pro 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at Rs. 13,990, 6GB RAM + 64GB storage is priced at Rs. 15,990 and the 8GB RAM + 128GB variant comes with a price tag of Rs. 17,990.

So, the Mi A2 is a bit expensive phone as compared to Redmi Note 6 Pro and Realme 2 Pro.
