Although the official release date for India is still not known, it is expected to arrive in the country by August 2018. Another budget offering by Xiaomi which is already available in the Indian market is Redmi Y2. Let us compare the Redmi Note 6 Pro with Redmi Y2 in order to find out which is a better device out of the two. Redmi Note 6 Pro vs Redmi Y2: Design and Display

The Note 6 Pro sports a 5.84-inch LCD capacitive screen with resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and aspect ratio of 19:9. It is the first Redmi phone to feature an iPhone X like top display notch. The Redmi Y2 features a slightly bigger 5.99-inch HD+ display with 1440×720 pixel resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Both the smartphones feature a premium metal body making them budget friendly as well as durable.

On the software front, the Redmi Note 6 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system topped with Xiaomi’s customized MIUI 9 skin. The Redmi Y2 runs MIUI 9.5 based on Android Oreo operating system out of the box.

On the hardware front, the Redmi Note 6 Pro features octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset with a 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 processor and an Adreno 506 graphics processor. The same is coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM, depending on the variant. The storage capacity is either 32GB or 64GB and the same can be expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card. The battery capacity of the device is impressive at 4,000 mAh.

While, the Redmi Y2 is powered by a similar octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset and an Adreno 506 graphics processor. The RAM is 3GB or 4GB and storage capacity is 32GB or 64GB, depending on the variant. The storage can be extended up to 256GB via dedicated microSD card slot. All of this is fueled by a 3,080mAh battery which the company claims can last an entire day with a single charge.

The Redmi 6 Pro features a vertically stacked dual camera set up on the rear which comprises of 12MP + 5MP sensors. The front hosts a 5MP camera for selfies and video calls. The front camera comes with HDR and AI portrait mode and can also be used to unlock the phone.

The Redmi Y2 also bears a vertically stacked dual rear camera set up which consists of 12MP + 5MP sensors. The phone is marketed as a selfie phone by the company and it features a 16MP front camera with f2.0 aperture. The selfie camera also supports LED flash and features group portrait selfie along with auto HDR. The phone also supports AI-based Face Unlock.

For security purpose, both Note 6 Pro and Redmi Y2 feature face unlock which is backed by AI. In addition, both the phones also feature a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.

Coming to the last but very important factor in the decision making i.e. price. The Redmi Y 2 was launched in India earlier this month. The base variant i.e. 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage comes with a price tag of Rs. 9,999, whereas the other variant i.e. 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage is priced at Rs. 12,999. The phone is sold online exclusively via Amazon.in and Mi Home stores. There are three color options available to the user- Gold, Dark Grey and Rose Gold.

As mentioned earlier, the Redmi 6 Pro is yet to be launched in India, but the date is still unknown. It was launched in China with a starting price of CNY 999 i.e. roughly Rs. 10,450 for the 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage variant. The middle variant i.e. 4GB RAM + 32GB storage variant comes with a price tag of CNY 1,199 i.e. roughly Rs. 12,550. The top variant i.e. 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,299 i.e. roughly Rs. 13,650. There are more color options available to the user in Redmi Note 5 Pro as compared to Redmi Y2. It comes in five color- Stone Black, Sand Gold, Cherry Blossom Powder, Bali Blue and Flame Red.

Our Verdict:

Xiaomi is known to offer good specifications packaged in budget offerings. Both Redmi 6 Pro as well as Redmi Y2 are no exceptions. The Redmi Y2 is priced fairly decent around Rs. 10,000 and the Redmi Note 6 Pro is also expected to be priced in India at the same level.
