Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi, has launched the Redmi 6 series in the Indian market by announcing the three variants namely Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, and Redmi 6 Pro. The company has also promised to release a MIUI 10 update for each of these smartphones. This is a welcome news as all the three variants were running Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9.6 at the launch event.
The smartphones in the Redmi 6 series will be available for purchase in India in this month itself. However, Xiaomi has not yet revealed the exact date when the latest custom OS will start getting incorporated into the smartphones. However, the MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM has been already launched out to eligible devices from the Xiaomi stable.
These developments closely succeed the rollout of the first stable version of MIUI 10 in China. The MIUI 10 arrived in a stable version in the country. MIUI 10 was launched as a stable version in Mi6 only after three months of the launch of its beta version.
The company took to Twitter to announce through the Redmi India handle that it would add the Redmi 6 series phones to the list of smartphones that will receive the MIUI 10 update. It will still be based on Android 8.1 Oreo. However, the details regarding the exact timeline of the rollout is still under wraps. The company has also not revealed any details regarding the operating system upgrade to Android 9 Pie.
Redmi 6 Series
Redmi 6 will be available for sale in India starting September 10 on Mi.com and Flipkart. It will come in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant for Rs 7,999. The 3GB RAM + 64GB onboard storage variant will comes with a price tag of Rs 9,499.
The company has mentioned in a statement that this introductory pricing for the device will last for two months.
The Redmi 6 features a Helio P22 chipset with 12nm processor which consumes less than half the power consumed by the 28nm chipsets. The smartphone packs a 5.45-inch 18:9 full screen HD+ display. The device comes with a polycarbonate back panel with a brushed metal surface texture and has an arc design.
“With the only smartphones in its segment with 12nm architecture, we hope Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 will be worthy successors in the market with their performance,” said Raghu Reddy, Head-Category and Online Sales, Xiaomi India.
“Redmi 6 Pro with AI dual camera and an astounding two-day battery is also another proof of Xiaomi’s focus on providing best specs at an honest pricing,” Reddy added.
The other smartphone in the Redmi 6 Series is the Redmi 6A that comes with a 5.45-inch 18:9 full screen
display with an HD+ resolution. It succeeds the Redmi 5 A and packs in Helio A22 chip and a 13MP rear camera.
The variants of the Redmi 6A – the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage variant comes with a price tag of Rs 5,999. The 2GB RAM + 32GB storage variant comes at a cost of Rs 6,999. The smartphone would be available on Mi.com and Amazon starting September 11.
Xiaomi has given a glimpse of the MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.9.6 update. The company has claimed to rollout compatible smartphones based on the update this week. It will follow the MIUI 10 Global Beta 8.8.30 update which has been rolled out to 25 smartphones of Xiaomi.
Xiaomi has announced through a MIUI forum post that it has started the rollout of the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM. The new ROM version comes with some bug fixes. The company is believed to have fixed issues in clear notifications, text translation, Panaroma Mode, Camera, and app icons in notification panel. Xiaomi has provided the entire changelog in the forum post.
Users of the eligible Xiaomi devices running the latest MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM can check if they have the latest MIUI 10 Global Beta ROM. They need to be sure if they have registered for it and then check Settings > About phone > System updates > Check for updates. The users can download it via the Updater app if they are already running the MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM.
