Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi had launched Redmi 5A in India last year with a price tag of Rs. 5,999 for its base variant (2GB RAM and 16GB ROM). However, company had announced a limited period inaugural offer price of Rs. 4,999 (discount of Rs. 1000). Now, the company has ended the inaugural offer on its “Desh Ka Smartphone” and it will come with original price tag of Rs. 5,999. The second variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage will cost Rs. 6,999. At the time of launch, Xiaomi had said that the offer will come to an end as soon as they managed to sell 5 million units. Now that Xiaomi has ended the offer, one can assume that it has managed to sell over 5 million units. However, there is no such official announcement by the company. The company had announced in January that it crossed 1 million units mark within a month of its launch. It’s quite unlikely that the company managed to sell remaining 4 million units in such short time span.

Our View:

The Redmi 5A is a good budget phone considering the features it has in the price range. Once can also consider the Redmi 4 which comes with a price tag of Rs. 6,999 but with slightly better features than Redmi 5A. Xiaomi is soon going to launch Redmi 5 which will be priced somewhere around Rs. 7,999, which is also a good option to consider if one can increase the budget. But if there’s budget constraint, then Redmi 5A is still one of the best budget phones available in the market.
