For all those who thought Russia was all about war and borscht soup, the new photo editor from a group of Russian developers will surely change your mind. Coming as a boon to all those Instagram users who are bored of the usual sepia filters, Prisma is more than a photo editing app. It carries within it filters with the ability to turn your already stunning capture of the setting sun into a Levitanesque landscape or perhaps your selfie into a Van Gogh masterpiece!

So what exactly is this app, you ask? Prisma is a simple photo editor with 33 smashing filters that will turn your dreary images into works of art. With this app, you needn’t be a pro at Photoshop to get your next perfect Facebook cover picture!

Currently available only on the App Store for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad Mini, & iPad 2, the developers of Prisma have already doubled their server capacity to handle the blitz of users. Prisma is available for download in 25 countries so far, and in about ten of them, the daily downloads are at a staggering 3,00,000! At just 15MB, it is an app worth your device! Also, it is available for free now and with a simple change in its settings, you can even turn off the watermarks!

So how exactly does this app work? It’s quite a simple app, without any frills or fancy.

Once downloaded, you can open the app and choose to edit an already existing image in your camera roll or click a picture from within the Prisma app. For this, you will need to allow the app to access your camera. Once you select/click the image, you can crop it and then comes the best part- the 33 filters to choose from! Once you select a filter, you can use the slider to adjust the intensity of the effect. Now that you have the artistic work at your fingertips, you can choose to save it or share it on Facebook or Instagram or any other sharing option that your iOS device supports. If you are not feeling a little like Monet at the end of this, we suggest you to get yourself checked.

The millions of Android users over the world need not get grumpy; the Prisma team is most likely to launch the Android compatible version of the app sometime this month, with even a video feature in the make! Imagine that… a whole series of pictures with a touch of Van Gogh! Oh, and did I mention support for virtual reality too?

One caveat before you start acting like Picasso already- not all the filters will get you your desired result. Some filters will work better for a certain type of image while some others will simply turn your selfie into that of a zombie- looking being. A little experimenting will be required before you start swearing by your love for Prisma!

The new Prisma app will surely put all those #nofilter hashtags to rest, what do you think?
