Remember Pebble, a smartwatch that raised $10.3 million on Kickstarter? And guess what? It existed well before the Apple Watch came into the scene. Above all, the pebble smartwatch was, and is still, considered as the best smartwatch ever built.
Much more interesting is it’s recently launched successor called the Pebble Time, which is comparatively much sleeker, has button less protruding, and flaunts an overall improved design. But, will this one manage to beat the rest of the biggies currently ruling the smartwatch arena? There seems to be no reason why it won’t. To be honest, the watch may not be fit enough to match the likes of the Apple Watch, but can surely give it a tough time.

So, what is Pebble Time?
It is a standard sized wristwatch with a built in computer and features a small 1.25 inch screen that displays real-time notifications right from your smartphone. The watch is compatible with Android and iOS devices. It offers you easy access to some of the most crucial apps including the calendar.
A microphone lets you send a voice reply to emails and text messages. If that’s not enough, the watch also has a sensor that turns it into a fitness tracker. Now, how cool is that. Wait a minute? Unlike its predecessor, the Pebble Time has no limit on the number of applications that can be installed on it. Isn’t that amazing?
Just like Apple, Google too seems to be constantly working towards making watches powerful enough to do almost everything that a smartphone can, in fact a little bit more. However, Pebble Time, on the other hand, has no intentions of getting in all that glamour but instead focuses on giving the users exactly what they are looking for. And that’s probably one of the reasons why the watch can go on for at least a week on a single charge.
What about the Design?
While other smartphones are made up of metal, this one is graced by plastic. But, it does feature a sleek stainless steel bezel. The watch is indeed quite thinner than the rest of the smartwatches and light enough to make you feel that you aren’t wearing one at all.
What do they say about it?
According to the CEO of Pebble Eric Migicovsky, people care more about what the watch does than how it actually looks. Now, of course, that may not be the truth, as for many, the design seems to be the most crucial factor. On the other hand, you have a bunch of individuals who probably won’t bother to listen to you when you talk about the looks. An affordable smartwatch with the best features is all that they need.

So, no doubt, the Pebble Time enjoys its own share of praises and suffers a slight bashing from a few critics at the same time. But, to be honest, the device turns out to be a good pick for those looking out for a smartwatch with a pocket-friendly price tag.
