Oppo’s Upcoming Reno 5 4G For The Global Market With Android 11 And SD 720G Spotted On Geekbench

In its home market China, Oppo introduced two Reno 5 series devices, named Oppo Reno 5 5G and Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G. A little after the announcement for the Chinese market, the R&D head of Oppo India Tasleem Arif, posted a teaser on his Twitter handle indicating the arrival of the Reno 5 series to India. Though the tweet didn’t mention any precise detail of the Reno 5 series, if we are to believe Tushar Mehta from XDA Developer, the Oppo Reno 5 lineup is expected to launch no later than January 2021.

The benchmarking portal Geekbench listed the new Oppo 4G device with model number CPH2159 followed by multiple reports revealing it to be the much anticipated Oppo Reno 5 4G lineup. The listing has revealed some primary specs of the smartphone, as well.

Oppo Reno 5 4G: Spotted on Geekbench

The same Oppo model number CPH2159 was earlier being spotted on multiple certification portals of different countries such as EEC (Europe’s Eurasian Economic Commission), TKDN of Indonesia, and also NBTC authority of Thailand. The model number was also seen listed in Pakistan’s import database. The 4G capability of the model number CPH2159 was confirmed by Thailand’s NBTC Authority along with its name Reno 5.

In the most recent development of the Geekbench listing, it is revealed that the model number CPH2159 is equipped with an ‘atoll’ SoC. In some earlier cases, this codename is used for Qualcomm’s SD 720G chipset. The classification also revealed that it will boot on Android 11 and sports 8 gigs of RAM. According to Geekbench, the brand might be testing the smartphone before the official launch and it is highly expected to go on sale next month.

Oppo Reno 5 Pro Global variant is expected to sport SD 765G

The Chinese tech mogul revealed the Oppo Reno 5 5G series in its home market with SD 765 and Dimensity 1000+ SoCs on Reno 5 5G and Reno 5 Pro 5G, respectively. It was last month when some key details were leaked by a Vietnamese source for the Reno 5’s global version.

The source revealed that the global version of the Reno 5 series will come with 4G and 5G capabilities. At the core, the smartphones will carry Snapdragon 720G and fast-charging support. Oppo will offer 50W SuperVOOC charging tech. Whereas the 5G variant is expected to come with 65W SuperVOOC charging and SD 765 SoC.

For the global markets, Oppo is only offering the 5G version of Oppo Reno 5 Pro 5G. The Vietnamese source also stated that this Pro variant will not come with a MediaTek chip. It is expected to draw its power from Snapdragon 765G. For the Chinese market, Oppo is going to launch the Reno 5 Pro+ 5G with a high-end Snapdragon 865 on Dec 24. However, there is much less probability for it to be launched in foreign markets.
