Oppo has launched the Oppo R17 Pro in China. This is the second instance of a triple-camera setup even seen in smartphones. What’s more, the primary lens of this smartphone’s triple camera setup comes with variable aperture too. The Oppo R17 Pro comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor, SuperVOOC fast charging support and an almost bezel less design.

Under the hood, the Oppo R17 Pro boasts of Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 clocked at 2.2 GHz. It is powered by Adreno 616 to enable processing of graphics and rendering a seamless user experience. The smartphone packs in 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. However, it does not support expansion of memory via a microSD card.

The Oppo R17 Pro features a selfie camera with a 25MP sensor that resides in a tiny notch and comes with an aperture of f/2.0. The USP feature is the triple camera setup. This is the only smartphone after the Huawei P20 Pro to offer the triple camera setup. Its primary sensor is a 12MP CMOS unit with a variable aperture of f/1.5-f/2.4. This is the same as the one that Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9+ offers. The camera facilitates dual pixel PDAF and optical image stabilisation (OIS). The other cameras of the triple camera setup comprise a 20MP sensor with f/2.6 aperture and auto focus, and a TOF 3D stereo camera.

The screen on the Oppo R17 Pro is a 6.4-inch AMOLED panel. The aspect ratio of the screen is 19.5:9. This has been possible because of the minimal notch design that the Oppo R17 Pro offers. As per the company, the smartphone has a screen-to-body ratio of 91.5 per cent. The smartphone offers a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. There is Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection to safeguard the display screen. The Oppo R17 Pro has replaced the physical fingerprint sensor with an under-display fingerprint sensor instead.

The Oppo R17 Pro also packs in the company’s very own SuperVOOC fast charging technology which was seen on Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition. The smartphone is powered by a 3,700mAh battery which has been divided into two halves measuring 1,850mAh each. The 50W SuperVOOC charger that is provided along with the smartphone can charge the smartphone to 40% in just ten minutes.

As for the connectivity options, the Oppo R17 Pro offers seamless connectivity via Bluetooth 5.0, USB Type-C and NFC among others. It runs Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box with Oppo’s ColourOS 5.1 on top.

The smartphone has been launched in China with a price tag of CNY 4,299 (which roughly converts to around Rs 44,000). The sales of the Oppo R17 Pro will begin in mid-October in China. The company hasn’t shared any official information on the global launch or the India rollout of the smartphone yet.
