Recently, Chinese smartphone maker Oppo added a new variant to its popular R17 series in the form of Oppo R17 Neo. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC which is one of the most widely used mid-range mobile SoCs around. Today we’ll be comparing the Oppo R17 Neo with Samsung’s Galaxy A6s smartphone and Realme’s Realme 2 Pro smartphone as they are also powered by the same by Snapdragon 660 SoC and belong to the same price segment as that of Oppo R17 Neo. In terms of design, The Oppo R17 Neo comes with a glass sandwich design and comes in Gradient Blue as well as Red colour options. The Realme 2 Pro sports a polycarbonate dewdrop back cover which gives a sense of transparency. The rear features a fingerprint sensor along with a horizontally stacked dual camera module. It is available in Black Sea, Blue Ocean, and Ice Lake colour options. The Galaxy A6S also comes with a glass sandwich design and sports Samsung’s Super AMOLED Infinity Display design which is similar to the company’s other flagship smartphones. There are four colour options available for the users- Salang Black, Koi Red, Flower Purple and Flower Blue colours.

In terms of display, the Oppo R17 Neo features an impressive 6.4-inch HD+ AMOLED display with screen resolution of 1080×2340 pixels and aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The Realme 2 Pro flaunts a 6.3-inch full-HD+ screen 1080×2340 pixel resolution, 409ppi pixel density and 19.5:9 aspect ratio resulting into 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio. While, the Samsung Galaxy A6 bears a 6-inch Full HD+ Infinity display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. So, the Oppo R17 and Realme 2 Pro are almost at par with each other but the Oppo R17 has a slight edge due to slightly bigger screen.

In terms of dimensions, the Oppo R17 Neo measures 158.3 x 75.5 x 7.4 mm (height x width x thickness) and weighs about 156 grams. The Realme 2 Pro measures 156.70 x 74.00 x 8.50 mm and weighs in at 174.00 grams. The Galaxy A6S has 156.3 x 76.5 x 8.5 mm dimensions and 184 grams weight. So, the Oppo R17 is the slimmest and the lightest of the three phones.

As mentioned earlier, all three phones are powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor clocked at 1.95GHz. However, they defer in terms of memory specifications.

The Oppo R17 Neo comes in single variant i.e. 4GB of RAM + 128GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded further up to 256GB using a microSD card.

The Realme 2 Pro comes in three memory variants- 4GB of RAM + 64GB internal storage, 6GB of RAM + 64GB internal storage and 8GB of RAM + 128GB internal storage.

The Samsung Galaxy A6s comes in two memory variants. The lowest variant features 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, while the top variant features 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. For further expansion, the device comes with Hybrid Dual-SIM slot.

In terms of OS, the Oppo R17 Neo runs ColorOS 5.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. The Realme 2 Pro is shipped with Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS OS 5.2 custom software. And the Galaxy A6s runs an older version of Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s custom UX layer on top.

In terms of battery, the Oppo R17 Neo is fueled by 3,600mAh battery. The Realme 2 Pro packs a 3,500mAh battery and the Galaxy A6s is backed by a 3,300mAh battery. So, the Oppo R17 Neo seems to have a slight edge over Realme 2 Pro and Galaxy A6s.

In the camera department, all three phones feature a dual camera set up on the back, but it differs in terms of configuration.

The Oppo R17 Neo sports a horizontally stacked dual rear camera set up comprising of 16-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. The front hosts an AI backed 25-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

The Realme 2 Pro sports a dual rear camera module which consists of a 16-megapixel Sony IMX398 sensor with f/1.7 aperture and another 2-megapixel secondary depth sensor. For selfies, there’s a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and AI Beauty 2.0. The phone also supports AR stickers on both the front and rear cameras.

The Galaxy A6s comes with a vertically stacked dual camera set up on the back consisting of a 12-megapixel primary sensor and 12-megapixel secondary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The front hosts a 12-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls.

Although you’ll need to refer to actual user reviews to know more about the actual camera performance, the Oppo R17 seems to be a good option for selfies just like most other Oppo phones.

The Oppo R17 Neo is available only in the Japanese market at the moment with a price tag of JPY 38,988 which is roughly Rs. 25,000. While the Samsung Galaxy A6s is launched only in China and is priced at CNY 1,799 i.e. approx. Rs. 19,000 for the base variant i.e. 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and CNY 2,199 i.e. approx. Rs. 23,200 for the top variant i.e. 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. Of course, the price in India won’t be exactly as converted here, but it will be in the similar range.

The Realme 2 Pro is the only device out of the three which is up for grabs in Indian market at the moment. It comes with a price tag of Rs. 13,990 for the base variant i.e. 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, Rs.15,990 for the mid-variant i.e. 6GB RAM + 64GB storage and Rs. 17,990 for the top variant i.e. 8GB RAM + 128GB storage. Notably. Realme has hiked prices of its Realme 2 and Realme C1 phones in India due to the falling rupee. It will be interesting to see if the company will also increase the price of Realme 2 Pro. At the moment, we’ll consider the above mentioned pricing for comparison purpose.

Pricing is one of the most crucial points when it comes to decision making and Realme 2 Pro gets an edge over its counterparts in terms of pricing. It may not be a clear winner in all the aspects, but it still at par with Oppo R17 Neo and Galaxy A6s in most aspects. It also scores more in some aspects like storage capacity. Thus, in our view Realme 2 Pro is a clear winner in this battle as it provides more value for customer’s money as compared to the other two devices.
